martynjohn,

when we were in Newquay in summer 2018 senior bus pass holders were not allowed free travel till after 09:00am monday friday.

Although you could purchase a £2.00p Rover ticket from first thing in the morning and valid all day.

Has the free travel for bus pass holders been amended?

OAP bus passes valid 24/7 since 01/04/2019.

Not sure what to think, will the free travel kick in from first thing in the morning monday to friday?

Currently OAP passes can be used 24/7, so yes.

As perhaps all the bigger bus players.  That said, First finances were in a poor state before lockdown, so perhaps not them.
First Kernow also own the Truronian coaches; do any other First group own a coaching group I wonder?

Look in the annual report, at one time Wessex were listed but not liked to any particular opco. Wessex were a major operator in Bristol based in the Kingswood area.

Looked at latest annual report

Wessex of Bristol
West Dorset Coaches
First Wessex National
Smiths of Portland

all four subsidiaries share registered office with First West Of England but surprisingly Bristol Bus Station Limited has a registered office with a London address

No entry for First Kernow but there is an entry for First South West registered office in Camborne whilst Truronian registered office is in London.

No 1 is the Pilning side emergency services access point for any incident within the Severn Tunnel. A former colleague of mine was a retained fireman at Thornbury and would come in and narrate tales of a shout during the night (an exercise) and his crew were the first appliance there despite having to wake up, dress and get to the fire station, fire up the vehicle and get to the emergency services assembly point and the retainers won the race. This was after the now defunct Avon CC closed the fire station in Pilning. My colleague, well he was the driver.

As much travelled that I am I have never flown with Virgin, my most air miles have been with Air New Zealand both International and Internal which was very pleasant and standards equitable to those of Virgin.
57  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Re: If / when electric trains, Thingley to Bristol Temple Meads on: May 06, 2020, 11:15:19
Nothing will be done in any case until the re-modelling of Bristol East Junction is completed together with the work on the trainshed roof which requires high level scaffolding.  Much easier without wires in the way.

What would it cost to erect and energise OHLE as far as Bristol East Depot / St. Anne's Cutting leaving the short stretch from Bristol East Depot / North Somerset Junction to TM(resolve) until Bristol East Junction is remodelled but knowing how swift NR» (Network Rail - home page) are at undertaking projects is the task unestimatable.

59  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Denial of travel on: April 25, 2020, 18:36:09
I am posting this at the request of an acquaintance who does not wish to be publicly identified.

In recent days a non white handicapped female of an ethnic minority was denied rail travel in Bristol from Temple Meads to Lawrence Hill.

The individual lives in the Totterdown district and set out on foot from her residence to travel to Lawrence Hill to food shop at the Lidl supermarket adjacent to the Lawrence Hill station where she had arranged to meet her carer who resides in the Barton Hill area.

She was advised to use the bus for her journey instead.

I don't know if her denial of travel was made by a member of staff from GWR (Great Western Railway) or a constable from BTP (British Transport Police) but if any member of GWR management or officer from BTP reads this post and would like to DM me contact details I will pass these to my acquaintance so that he can take the matter further if he wishes although he has advised me that he has referred the incident to Transport Focus.
