14716  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture - related rail and other transport issues / Boy critical after crash on Suffolk level crossing. BBC News 04/07/2010 on: July 04, 2010, 16:16:48
From the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page):

Quote

A 10-year-old boy was critically injured when a car he was in was hit by a train on a level crossing in Suffolk.

The collision happened on the East Suffolk line between Beccles and Oulton Broad at 2037 BST, British Transport Police (BTP (British Transport Police)) said.

Suffolk Fire Service were called to the scene as it was feared some of the 60 people on board the National Express East Anglia train were trapped.

Crews found there were no injuries and everyone was led to safety.

The boy, who was a passenger in the car believed to have been driven by his grandfather, received serious head injuries and was taken to the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston.

His condition is described as critical but stable.

A BTP spokeswoman said: "An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is now under way and BTP would like to hear from anyone with information about the collision."

Passengers from the train were taken by buses to their destinations.

Ta.

I was under the impression that exams were lettered rather than numbered. The 'T/T' makes sense though.
14718  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: First Silverlink '150' Refurbished on: July 02, 2010, 20:48:38
quite correct EXE will be losing the pacers and gaining 150's once we get all the stroke 1's.although not sure if it will be a mix of 1 and 2's all class 150 or just the stroke 1's.obviously the level 5 stuff and T/T will still get done at SPM (St Philip's Marsh (Bristol depot)) though.

Care to explain 'level 5 stuff' and 'T/T'?

Thanks awfully  Wink
14719  Journey by Journey / Heart of Wessex / Re: Weymouth ghost train? on: July 02, 2010, 15:22:27
Didn't go Weymouth in the end. Nearly forgot that I had an interview to attend. It was only seeing my suit hanging on the door that reminded me.......

I called FGW (First Great Western) Customer Services this morning to check on the 0840 ex BRI» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains) on Monday. Advisor checked with Control and was told that it wasn't running due to a 'planned cancelation' ( huh?).

Just got in from interview to find an answerphone message from same advisor telling me that the info she gave me this morning was wrong and the 0840 ex BRI is running as per printed timetable!

Thanks, fatcontroller. Off to Weymouth I go.  Grin

Delving deeper it appears it has to exist because the return working from WEY at 1110 is listed in OJPs (Online Journey Planner).
14721  Journey by Journey / Heart of Wessex / Re: Weymouth ghost train? on: July 01, 2010, 22:48:29
I'm talking about a Mon-Fri service though, which also appears in the previous (Dec 09-May10) timetable.
14722  Journey by Journey / Heart of Wessex / Weymouth ghost train? on: July 01, 2010, 22:21:03
According to my FGW (First Great Western) Network timetable, the National Rail timetable and the individual FGW .pdf timetable there is a Mon-Fri Bristol to Weymouth service departing BPW» (Bristol Parkway - next trains) at 0819 and BRI» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains) at 0840. This train, according to the timetables, originates at Worcester Shrub Hill at 0647.

Thing is I can't see this service on any online journey planners. And NRES (National Rail Enquiry Service) by phone couldn't find it either. Reason I ask is it is ideal for a day out in Weymouth giving an extra hour plus over the 0949 ex BRI.

Does it exist or is it an error in the printed timetables?

Grin Fair go. Typo did rather change the context.

Now what about mynahs? Can they be taken to court?
14724  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Penalty fares go live in April 2010 on: July 01, 2010, 20:43:22
Isn't signing the PF (Penalty Fare) notice and agreeing to pay within 21 days an admission of guilt, therefore preventing further prosecution under a different law?

As far as I can see, if the guilty party fails to pay the penalty within 21 days the only option open to the TOC (Train Operating Company) is to pursue a civil debt. Something they cannot, AFAIK (as far as I know), do with a miner.
14725  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: First Silverlink '150' Refurbished on: July 01, 2010, 18:55:58
Fair enough, I should've queried what 150127 was doing on the SVB line rather than just in Bristol. First time I've experienced a 150/1 on this line. 150/2s or 153s are more usual to replace faulty 143s.
14726  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Penalty fares go live in April 2010 on: July 01, 2010, 18:42:23
Can the TOC (Train Operating Company) really cancel a PF (Penalty Fare) then begin proceedings under the Regulation of Railways Act 1886? Doesn't double jeopardy prevent this (unless new and viable evidence has come to light)?

Well, there you go. Modern traction just ain't as reliable as the old stuff!  Wink

Eh? NXEA (National Express East Anglia) don't have any HSTs (High Speed Train) Huh

If it's the case that liability remains with the child, surely TOCs (Train Operating Company) are on a hiding to nothing. AFAIK (as far as I know) they cannot persue a minor through the courts for a civil debt.
14730  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: First Silverlink '150' Refurbished on: July 01, 2010, 00:51:14
Hasn't taken long for 150127 to get tatty. Aside from the end of day litter, I noticed two seat covers that were unthreading, etched windows and flooring coming up. She was on the Severn Beach line tonight (30/06/2010) in multiple with a 153. Quite what she was doing up here I don't know - any further north and she'll be back in London Midland territory!

I've never been a big fan of the 150/1's, and I positively hate 3+2 seating. The 'refresh' seems to have been done on a very tight budget and I'm sure those responsible did their best but a phrase kept popping into my head.... "Polishing a t*rd".

Anyone know what 150127 was doing in Bristol? And does operating 150/1s on the SVB line require multiple working with a 153? If so, why?

With the guard stuck in the 153, there was no revenue protection whatsover.
