61  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Devon Day Ranger on: June 08, 2016, 12:13:57
Rover and Ranger tickets can be purchased on the train, I have often bought a Severn and Solent Rover after boarding at Axminster. The Devon Day Ranger is valid to Okehampton according to http://railrover.org/pages/devon-day-ranger.html .

But of course that might be out of date now!

Well... the Train Station health and fitness sign is on the corner of Station Approach, Frome, but I can't quite see how that fits into your itinery!
64  Journey by Journey / Heart of Wessex / Re: Timetable Posters - Heart of Wessex on: May 09, 2016, 08:17:57
I remember discussing this timetable problem with Graham some time ago (when we were delivering the TransWilts publicity in Melksham) and I wrote emails to FGW (First Great Western) and to the Frome Town Council lady (I don't remember her name, it was the person Graham was speaking to at the Cheese and Grain meeting about SWT (South West Trains)'s plans). Nothing has happened. I also blame (in some part) the lack of information provided at Frome for the poor passenger numbers when First ran the 234 bus from the station, the bus information on the platform and the bus stop itself still stated that it was for rail replacement services only.
65  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Heart of Wessex via Yeovil Fares on: May 07, 2016, 16:13:42
Interesting, in December I sent an Email to SWT (South West Trains) on 16th December 2015, as follows:

Good afternoon,

I am very pleased that you are running new services from Yeovil Junction, calling at Frome, however I am very disappointed with the fare for the journey, a single ticket from Yeovil Junction costing ^11 more than one from Yeovil Pen Mill. This means you are charging ^11 for a five minute journey, this must be the most expensive rail journey in the world! I hope you can do a better deal soon.

Best wishes and Happy Christmas,

Alan Pettitt,
Axminster
( a traveller every day on your services).

I received a reply from SWT stating that the fares were set by Great Western so they would forward my email to them.

I then, eventually, received an email from GWR (Great Western Railway) in January stating that they were sorry that I was complaining about the fare increase but these were set by the government.

Not a problem for me, I have learnt to split!

Just a reminder that Devon residents can get 20% discount on Senior Railcards at any time.

67  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: First Bus X31 wrong route on: August 10, 2015, 19:03:15
No, she wasn't given an option, she is, I imagine, between 85 and 90 years old, she should have arrived in Martinstown at 1705, a 16 minute journey, whereas she will actually arrive about 2030. Not the best customer service.
68  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / First Bus X31 wrong route on: August 10, 2015, 18:09:10
I have just boarded the 1749  X31 at Bridport going  to Axminster and there is a little old lady sitting on the bus having boarded in Dorchester to go to Martinstown. The driver forgot to go through Martinstown and the supervisor at Bridport told her to stay on the bus and it will be diverted to her destination on it on its way back to dorch. I don't think this very acceptable, surely it would warrant a taxi,  probably she will have an extra three hours on her trip.
69  All across the Great Western territory / Diary - what's happening when? / Re: South West Trains proposals for Frome etc. on: April 14, 2015, 11:23:17
Yes Paul, I was only referring to the presentation.
70  All across the Great Western territory / Diary - what's happening when? / Re: South West Trains proposals for Frome etc. on: April 13, 2015, 21:09:10
As a regular user of Freedom of Severn and Solent Rovers, to go to both Axminster and Dorchester (amongst other places) I wonder if the rover ticket will cover Yeovil Pen Mill to Yeovil Junction section, because it's not shown on the current map and it will be a bit of a pain to still have to go via Salisbury to get to Axminster. However, I suppose I could ask tomorrow evening!

I think they all do.   My local does.
There is an exception in Scotland where for some reason they can't sell alcohol until 12 30.

No a lot of them keep to their 9 a.m. rule, even if they open at 8 (Trowbridge for certain)

My very good friend (still) who also happens to be my ex sent me a text from Wetherspoons Bridport a couple of years ago at 0715 to say she was enjoying a nice pint of cider with a mutual friend. When I spent a couple of days with her for her 50th in Bath in February just gone I asked her if Spoons still opened at 7, and she gave me the bad news that it doesn't open till 8 now.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but forgive me if I've missed it. Tomorrow 14th April 2015 Chris Loder, head of business projects South West Trains is giving a presentation at the Cheese and Grain, Frome from 5.30 - 6.30 p.m. to discuss the proposed via Frome services and to answer questions.

- and they do serve good beer (I'm not sure whether they serve it at 10 a.m.!) but are not the place to go if you want a pub atmosphere.

Wetherspoons in Bridport serve alcohol from 8 a.m.

Well I shared your Facebook post a couple of hours ago Graham, and have had a "like" from a friend in M^lyi, Hungary, so the word seems to be spreading quite well  Smiley
