31  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: End of the Royal Mail Postbus on: August 21, 2017, 20:45:28
Just one of those quiet back door cuts! Royal Mail say they are no longer viable (!), Local Authorities are working to enforced shrinking budgets (again and again)...so who do you blame...I know who I blame..again the disadvantaged suffer...obvious. Nasty Nasty...we don't all ( and an increasing number) own or have access to a car...what's the option peeps?

Sadly that's the way it goes...don't vote nasty party!
33  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: Pub names - names for pubs near stations? on: August 11, 2017, 19:12:34
haha...my favourite has always been Rat and Trumpet but I had a beer with a couple of freight drivers and one was complaining about a 'Too bright Feather'...good name for a band mind. Only for drivers I guess.

Apologies if this has already been said! But there must be more important issues to concern him!

Worth following up Ecotricity's promotion of Greengas, ie methane from grass...several sites awaiting planning approval, mainly in areas close to fracking sites..as an eco alternative, with low impact and many 'green' advantages...local ecology benefits etc...all explained on their green gas site...not directly solar, but part of the low-impact mix!

The hard man in the camp! It is true he's had foot in all camps...having been involved with BR (British Rail(ways)), then in setting up the Shropshire and Wrexham and now DfT» (Department for Transport - about)

It's the extremes of snow load that flat roof structures are designed for rather than material surely!

A rather vague article about proposals for the Borders Line

I understand...I've read that as there tends to be some steep sections of track, they overheat and 'cutout'. Don't know how regular this is, nor where I read it. I agree some lines would welcome them though!

Has anyone seen any articles or realistic suggestions that some loco hauled stock should substitute for the inadequate 158s?

Aye, thanks Richard...will explore that one. I was aware it was becoming a bit trendy, but it's a while since I've talked to the locals. When my son attended the uni (and kitchen portered in the Mexican) I used to drink in the Oddies pub: about as local as you'll get I guess...loved it. Thanks again, Jamie

Thanks Richard...probably at most a twin for a couple of nights: nothing too exotic, relatively central but with en suite...no dates fixed but certainly July/August. Used to stay at Seawards on Melville Road which was good, but they have retired.

Thanks again, Jamie Smiley

The Temple Meads IBIS was excellent. A good view over the station Eastern throat! Declined breakfast however at over ^8 a pop!
Comfortable bed and a good sleep! Grin
