Yep, worth a go - thanks.

Nah Sad

Could always ask at the ticket office if they will excess it to a off peak single, there is a chance they might not charge the admin fee if they are feeling generous.

Yep, worth a go - thanks.

Of course I realise the way this works - if I don't buy a new ticket now, the conductor will check my ticket and I will have to buy an anytime. If I do buy one now, he won't come near Roll Eyes
34  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Advance ticket - wrong time train on: January 26, 2011, 12:15:33
Sorry you won't get anything on the ticket - if you just board the train you would run the risk of being sold an Anytime Single.

...which is ^22.50. Ok, thanks.
35  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Advance ticket - wrong time train on: January 26, 2011, 12:12:38
I think you have to do any changes at the ticket office before you board.

The problem with that is that I think there's a ^10 fee to change an advance ticket, so I would just end up paying the full ^12.10.

If that's what I have to do, then fair enough.

Hi - I've just found out I need to go home early today to sort out a problem at home, so I won't be taking the train specified on my advance ticket, which cost ^7.50.

If I bought a new ticket now, the cheapest would be a super off-peak at ^12.10. However, if I wait for the conductor to check my ticket on the train, would he just charge me the difference?

The route is Bath - Didcot.

Got on the 1843 for London Paddington at Bath, left about 10 minutes late, got into Reading at 2210. Nearly 3.5 hours for what should be a 1 hour trip Cry

We got to Swindon and were told that it was heading back to Chippenham before going direct to Reading (presumably via the Westbury/Newbury 'scenic' route). However while waiting to set off, another train rolled up that was going direct through Didcot. I thought going forwards rather than backwards had to be the best bet. Doh Smiley

The one bit of 'luck' was that we didn't get into Reading 2 minutes later, which would have meant me missing the 2212 down the Waterloo line to Earley and having to hang around for another 30 minutes.

That's great, thanks.
39  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Didcot to Bath - when is off-peak? on: November 28, 2010, 22:13:51
Thanks again. Is this stuff written down somewhere, online?
40  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Didcot to Bath - when is off-peak? on: November 28, 2010, 16:35:16
Off Peak starts at 0915
Thanks - so I guess my colleague is lucky to get away with it.
41  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Didcot to Bath - when is off-peak? on: November 28, 2010, 16:05:51
Hi - if I use the FGW (First Great Western) online booking system, the earliest I can get a Didcot-Bath open return (^15.30) is 1012. But a colleague tells me he buys one at the station and is able to use it on the 0912.

Can anyone tell me when off-peak official starts on this route?

Cheers
John

It meant the Paddington-Bristol Temple Meads which I joined at 0726 in Reading took the scenic route, going through Trowbridge etc. and not stopping at Didcot, Swindon, or Chippenham.

Unfortunately they didn't announce the change of route at Reading station - I know it caught some of the passengers in my coach by surprise.

EDIT: I mean it caught me by surprise as well, but I was going to Bath so was able to just relax and enjoy the scenery.

Just to make you jealous DB» (Deutsche Bahn - German State Railway - about) IC (Inter City) DVTs(resolve) have 30 plus reservable bike spaces per coach.

but apparently there are plans afoot to make more bicycle parking available at stations
I usually park my bike at Reading (ie. when I remember to bring my bike lock keys) - it hasn't been a problem for me.
45  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Bicycles on trains (merged topics) on: September 28, 2009, 09:38:13
Apologies if this has been covered before, but...

I usually leave my bike at Reading station on route to Bath (0727), but this morning I left my bike lock keys at home so had to take my bike on the train. Unfortunately, because there were already 6 bikes in the rack on the train, the guard said it was full so I would have to wait for the next train.

6 bikes between 8 carriages (IC125) - is this reasonable? Are there any plans to increase the IC125s' bike capacity?

Cheers
matt
