All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Infrastructure problems in Thames Valley causing disruption elsewhere - ongoing, since Oct 2014

My memory, from JounreyCheck (which I know isn't always reliable)k was that the broken rail was affecting trains going towards Paddington. Whilst the broken down train was removed quite quickly, the overhead wires had to be checked and that impacted upon Reading bound services for a lot of the day.
The first train through on the Down Main at Southall was the 14:48 PAD» - SWA» about 2 hours after the incident happened, so not immediately, but not what you’d describe as ‘a lot of the day’ either. The broken rail meant the Up Main was closed between Twyford West and Maidenhead for the remainder of the day. I'm not sure if it's possible to dig up a cached version of JourneyCheck but it was certainly saying that westbound disruption was expected to 1830 at one point yesterday. And a GWRHelp Tweet at 7.23pm yesterday said " due to a broken down train between London Paddington and Reading fewer trains are able to run. Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 20:30"

Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Estimates of station usage 22-23

A belated comment regarding the latest station usage figures ( https://dataportal.orr.gov.uk/statistics/usage/estimates-of-station-usage) but I notice that in terms of entries and exits, Hanborough has overtaken Charlbury. Twenty years ago, more than three times as many used Charlbury than Hanborough. Moreton-in-Marsh is now the most used station between Oxford and Worcester with 269K entries and exits, then Hanborough 262K, Charlbury 257K, Evesham 245K and Kingham 206K. Figures haven't quite yet reached the pre-Covid and opening of Oxford Parkway levels but are looking quite healthy. Kingham's figure of over 200K is certainly a recent record high (based on data from Wikipedia).

Morning of 3 January 2023 not shaping up very well
To clarify - 2024, I'm afraid - still ongoing. Should I split th thread at 1.1.204 and rename, or do members on the line prefer it to be a single ongoing thread (and I can flush the titles though to something that would cover both years My fault as I did the first 2024 post! My view would be a split would be appreciated. Seeing how many pages the topic gets to each year is a useful indication of how good/bad the year has been compared to previous ones.

1P02 0523 Hereford to Paddington - cancelled by severe flooding
1P16 0649 Worcester Shrub Hill - ran as booked, left Shrub Hill 6 minutes late, arrived Paddington 5 minutes late
The 0523 was a cancellation as far as passengers travelling from the Cotswolds were concerned but was run as a 5 car IET▸ starting from Oxford. It departed Oxford 25 minutes late from platform 4. it was still on the platform as the 0643 Worcester Shrub Hill to Paddington service pulled in to platform 3.

In addition to the problems between London and Reading, we have: Cancellations to services between Didcot Parkway and Oxford
Due to a tree blocking the railway between Didcot Parkway and Oxford all lines are blocked.
Train services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed. Disruption is expected until 18:00 02/01.
Nothing moving at the moment (16:45). Amongst other services, the 14:53 Paddington to Worcester Shrub Hill has been stuck at Didcot for an hour, and the 13:55 Great Malvern to Paddington (normally starts from Hereford but the outward service never got there) has been sitting at Charlbury since 15:40. Edit by admin - with the agreement of the active posters already this year, I have split the 2024 delays and cancellations into a new thread - and this was the first post of 2024.

This morning's 06:43 Worcester Shrub Hill to Paddington service was "cancelled due to late arrival of an inbound service (YI)". The following London bound service, the 07:13 Great Malvern to Paddington train was "cancelled between Great Malvern and Worcester Foregate Street due to late arrival of an inbound service (YI)" and was 34 minutes late by the time it arrived at Oxford. Effectively a delay of almost an an hour and a half for those due to travel on the earlier service.

14:53 London Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street due 17:04 will no longer call at Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham, Honeybourne and Pershore. It has been delayed at London Paddington and is now 22 minutes late. This is due to a shortage of train crew. Last Updated:06/12/2023 15:45

And meanwhile the 0523 seems to have been sitting in Foregate Street platform 1 for 50 minutes and counting, if the live departure boards are to be believed.
GWR▸ on Twitter say the signalling system is up the spout (not exact quote).
Realtime Trains suggesting it's just got to Worcestershire Parkway 74 minutes late. Luckily, the halts train seems to be on time so will be able to pick everyone up...

06:43 Worcester Shrub Hill to London Paddington due 08:43 will be cancelled. This is due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time. Last Updated:05/12/2023 05:17 And the preceding 05:23 Hereford to Paddington being a five coach short-formation. I'm supposed to be catching the 06:43 tomorrow. Hopefully, third time lucky this week...
