When I was living in the Midlands, the booking office at Stourbridge town would always sell me a one day Centrocard when I asked for a return to Solihull.

These alliances are all well and good when accompanying the main operator but less so for the others.
During the WCML (West Coast Main Line) closure due to repairs on the Lamington viaduct updates were coming from the ScotRail Alliance (who have no services running over the viaduct, an update from Network Rail Scotland would have seemed more appropriate!

Virgin do have a train in the afternoon that only stops at Preston on it's way to Glasgow.

The 0822 New St to Stansted Airport starts back from Gloucester on weekdays.

(Interesting that my mac auto-corrected Stansted to stagnated.  Hmmm...)

John beat me to it!
23  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: Cambridge North Station - requirement, plans, progress on: January 09, 2016, 18:02:25

Cambridge is not in GWR (Great Western Railway) / SWT (South West Trains) / XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) territory - so why am I writing about it here?

Well there is a proposed 1tph XC service in each direction, along with a daily through train from the old GW (Great Western) region!

I do plan to use this facility soon. A critique will be posted, with pictures.

I'd recommend the salmon!
25  Journey by Journey / Cross Country services / Re: Cross Country Direct Award Consultation on: December 03, 2015, 23:01:20
Like your comments RTS. This should happen all the way from Aberdeen to Plymouth. So you have locals in front from Aberdeen Edinburgh, Edinburgh Newcastle, Newcastle York, York Derby? Derby Birmingham, Birmingham Bristol, Bristol Plymouth and then the stopper folow the CC from Plymouth.

In the reverse direction the stopper is in front to Edinburgh and then follows to Aberdeen.

In the reverse there is an 1800 ScotRail to Dundee, unfortunately it's usually delayed by a local jeopardising the onward connection from XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) at Aberdeen for Dyce and Inverurie - as a direct service from the North East (of England that is!) the train carries a lot of offshore workers needing the airport at Dyce.
Another irritation is that peak restrictions finish at 1809, the XC is 1810!
26  Journey by Journey / Cross Country services / Re: Cross Country Direct Award Consultation on: December 03, 2015, 13:34:33
One annoyance for me is that 1V60, the 0820 ABD-PNZ runs five minutes in front of a ScotRail semi-fast between Dundee and Edinburgh calling at the same stops, scooping up all of the passengers, both local and long distance. It's been like that for years and having worked for both companies I can say that the ScotRail is empty and the XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) full to bursting. Now common sense would say run the ScotRail in front and take stops out of the XC, with connections made at Haymarket, those making local journeys with little advance planning get to travel on a train with no reservations applied and those making longer journeys can hang back a bit and get on a train where they can actually reach their reserved seat!
27  Journey by Journey / Transport for London / Re: Transport for London geniuses or not. on: November 05, 2015, 15:31:25
The turnstiles at Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central are both 30p, if you overpay then it keeps 10p in credit so the following person only has to pay 20p.
28  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: What happens if train delay causes customer to miss last train home? on: October 27, 2015, 14:20:54
It would be up to the delaying company to arrange onward transport or overnight accommodation, in this situation a hotel would probably have been their first idea. As you were delayed, the Advance ticket would have been valid on the next available (morning) service.

Recently had a couple arriving into Edinburgh on St Ives (Cornwall) to Aberdeen tickets, many phonecalls later GWRs (Great Western Railway) first offer was a hotel in Edinburgh and we ended up compromising on the last stopper to Dundee and a taxi for the rest of the way.

There used to be a Brightside station in Sheffield.  Right in the middle of a heavy industry area - anything but Bright

Reminds me of Coatbridge Sunnyside!
30  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Person hit by train, Highbridge, 22nd October 2015. on: October 22, 2015, 17:16:58
Without going into too much detail, BTP (British Transport Police) have classed the incident as 'special recovery' and refused permission to set back to Highbridge. A GWR (Great Western Railway) unit had been stopped at Bridgwater to assist in passenger evacuation once there were enough staff on site to detrain to ballast. GWR management and NR» (Network Rail - home page) staff assisting the XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) crew.
