*Wider body meaning wider 2+3 seats

Meaning they will never be cleared for any work outside Thames Valley.

And they don't couple with anything except themsleves.
47  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: 166 A/C on: May 15, 2008, 17:02:10
No, really it does not.
Fine then, we'll take 4 car 142's on our branchlines and you can have 2-car turbo's for Devon local services.
Turbo's are horrible.

I would sacrifice the ability to split break my journey (it is only available on a few tickets anyway and not many people use it) for greater availability of period returns.  Effecient stamping of tickets with the date (not just a punched hole) by train staff or my passengers would detect all reuse (except travelling the same route twice in the same day)

Well Tm's/Guards should have proper Stamps which display every single bit of info possible, just if they were universal not just for the certain TM(resolve)/Guard's. Local Guards have them more than HSS (High Speed Services) and Cross Country nearly always have them, if they were universal it would work.

For the quiet coaches , I would like technology installed that prevents the phone from getting a signal.
You mean any Voyager coach!

No blinds on windows, very selfish people can put one down on an airline seat and you may not be able to see.

150 failures are getting more common now.
51  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: West Wilts Rail Users Group Launch Petition For Free Pensioner Rail Travel on: May 15, 2008, 07:57:42
One simple word on the WWRUG» (West Wiltshire Rail Users Group - about) idea again:

NO

OUTRAGOUS idea, the buses are now stupidly full, along with many trains still. Why is it since they have had free travel on buses, they want it on everything they can. How about a free pass being valid on a Boeing 747 to America?

I'm sorry, but the goverment can't afford the scheme as it is, let alone with trains being added as well!

But Remember, the only reason for it on the lines in Wales, is because they have only a handfull of bus services, generally speaking..

Got to agree qoth Jim, if pensioners were allowed to run free on the railway teh same thing would happen as it did with buses.

Price increases.

Service cuts.

Overcrowded trains off-peak.

Delays as they get on/off.

It is a stupid idea and it will ruin the railways for everyone else.
52  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: SDO on: May 15, 2008, 07:51:39
Basically means the TGS is platformed *nearly* everywhere instead of platforming the front power car. Means a change in policy to cycle loading, gets a bit confusing as if you put your bike in TGS then want to get off at one of the few exceptions where the TGS isnt platformed....

I take it Evesham is one of the exceptions?

In normal formation if TGS is platformed on the up service then the front power car has to go past the signal

At the moment its the only station on the cotswold line that is not effectively SDO (Selective Door Opening) 2
The other day I saw a poster in Camborne Station with a person putting a bicycle in Coach E, I think.
But the Ticket Office was closed and I couldn't get a better look.
Camborbne has a similar situation to Evesham, TGS is just off the back unless you go past the signal and on to the level crossing.
53  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: SDO on: May 15, 2008, 07:50:05
Anyone else noticed that Guard seemed to have given up on SDO (Selective Door Opening) in Cornwall exceot when they have to?

Camborne now seems to be done from the Buffet, all doors, as do most stops which aren't considered to be dangerously short.

Have TM(resolve)'s been told this or are they getting lazy.

Better than one the other day who did Doors Forward from Coach E at Truro, quickly realised his mistake and let A,B,C and D on though.
Roll Eyes

Useless system. Even with perfectly competent staff, it causes delays. Ban it! Ban it now!
Actually Btline, that was a staff mistake.
Why? He was checking tickets and just didn't remeber he wasn't at A like usual.
And I am greatful to him because it was an additional service and wouldn't have to work as it was a bank holiday.
54  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: 166 A/C on: May 15, 2008, 07:48:04
FGW (First Great Western) have previously raised the possibility of Crossrail enabling a cascade of Turbos west, to displace Class 143 and Class 15x units on cross-Bristol services.
They can keep them in Thames Valley, they are awful units, a pacer beats them.

Brake release fault on 150234
Thanks SPM (St Philip's Marsh (Bristol depot)) for giving us a refurb 150, shame it doesn't work!
57  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: High Speed Train Replacement on: May 14, 2008, 18:45:34
I'd rather have a 444 than some foul old botched 153 that should be operating regional Bristol services and not BRI» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains) to PNZ.
153's actually should be used on branchlines.
And 153's are more comfortable than 444's and more comfortable and nicer inside than a 150, the usual stock for BRI-PNZ.

Perhaps I just have a bad attitude toward them them, based upon bad experiences on them before. Have the refurbishments done them any justice?

Ahh, pre refurb they were shocking.
Quite nice now.
58  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: High Speed Train Replacement on: May 14, 2008, 18:11:08
A varient of the 444, with new seats would be a brilliant train for Portsmouth-Cradiff but still not convinced it is the best option for London-Penznace.

It has far less padding than HST (High Speed Train) standard.
HST standard has loads of padding, give the seats a couple of years and they will be extremely comfortable.
