1  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Wearing the same clothes throughout your holiday. on: June 04, 2022, 15:27:10
Of course it is dependent on where you are going,
especially its hotter/colder than here. But we really
should make more of an effort to cut down on the amount
of luggage also taken on trains! I see massive suitcases being
trundled around and taking up space on board, and I wonder exactly what people
are carrying and to where? It may be legit, but really, we are not doing
ourselves any favors. Sometimes these need assistance to be moved on/off
board, only to then incur someone elses help. Just take less!
Sorry to rant, its been one of my things to live by of the last few years.
2  All across the Great Western territory / Introductions and chat / Re: Member Roll call on: May 06, 2020, 20:59:03
Hi Everyone, I am located in the 'Wild west' and have been on the railway
for nearly 20 years, a 'youngster'...
Used to be onboard, Guarding but more recently station based.
I have always loved a train ride, have a lot of interest in its evolution.
My favorite thing is the variety of architecture all around the country.
I do spend spare time visiting far flung corners, especially if i can
find a good beer too!!
3  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: St.Erth Park and Ride on: February 22, 2019, 17:12:42
It will be a massive loss for the families who use Lelant saltings when they
stay at the (very busy) holiday Park nearby.
They are certainly not going to traverse the busy road to
St.erth either.
 Sad Sad

6  All across the Great Western territory / Who's who on Western railways / Re: "Thank You" letters on: June 04, 2016, 11:23:28
A colleague of mine was pleased to receive a letter of thanks from Mark Hopwood this week.
It came about as he had a passenger taken ill on board and some other passengers had written in
to say what a good job he had done etc., For him it made all the difference to get this, it was written
all over his face and probably will impact on him for a while.
7  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: under cover ticket inspectors on: June 25, 2015, 12:30:28
I asked about this and was told it was less intimidating for people who are approached. As they usually are in numbers when on board, I can see their point, the last journey I made they were split, some uniformed and some not....
8  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Child escapes with minor injuries after falling under a train at Camborne (30 April 2015) on: May 01, 2015, 14:24:38
Person fell between the train and the platform whilst it was arriving at the station.
Conflicting accounts of how,
seems she ended up "tumbling" under the train.

Seems very lucky to escape alive....

The other one at Bodmin, seems to be still unreported, perhaps a problem
with informing family or something?
9  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Fare dodging to court within 2 weeks (West Briton article) on: April 29, 2015, 14:30:22
Cripes! Some hefty fines.......

To be fair, the revenue guys have only been opperational here in Cornwall in the
lat 3/4 years to my knowledge,
This shows they are valuable and paying their way i suppose!
10  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: 0913/0918 BRI-PNZ on: April 01, 2015, 14:09:15
Apologies, there was no specific date in the original question. Think this is only good friday though....
11  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: 0913/0918 BRI-PNZ on: April 01, 2015, 13:31:42
If this is current timetable, Hst to Exd changing on to 150 service to Pnz.....hence to 1st class/2 bike capacity.
Currently no 158 services through Devon and Cornwall Angry
12  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Station usage figures. on: August 14, 2014, 15:37:42
I think Rob T is referring to trains on the 'down' line, lots of short platforms mean the train manager has to protect the rear unplatformed or 'risky' doors.....Others like Lostwithiel and Hayle mean only opening 3 or 4 coaches IIRC (if I recall/remember/read correctly)..
Back to the original post from FarwestJohn, still be interested to know when you are having problems?? Spoke to the nice new lady on the Falmouth branch about it, she seemed a bit concerned!!
13  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Station usage figures. on: August 08, 2014, 21:11:07
Be interesting to know what time of day this was,...Huh I understand there have been additional ticket sellers on the Falmouth branch and find it hard to believe that this could happen. I know that FGW (First Great Western) read some items on this forum and they would no soubt be interested if they thought that their new initiative was not working!
14  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Sunday train services on: December 09, 2013, 18:52:53
First trip up to Truro this Sunday, two coaches full and standing by Penryn.
Testament that it was needed!

Again, Bill Oddie (miserable git when i asked to check his railcard), Paul Young (lovely) Nigella Lawson, Lisa Faulkner, Gary Rhodes (chatty), James Tanner, Nathan Outlaw ( I see a pattern here) and recently the very talkative Sir Tim Rice, again very pleasant to meet!
