3241  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: 7.01 from Maidenhead to Paddington on: June 12, 2019, 09:04:34
That's good news. I was at Ealing Broadway for the 1707 last night (cancelled, train fault)) and the 1720 was shortformed as a 3 car Turbo (another train fault). Managed to wedge myself on but it was packed beyond description and left many behind on the platform.

Seems the early arrival of the stock for today's trip to Windsor caused delays for SWR» (South Western Railway - about) services into and out of Waterloo this morning.

A steam locomotive caused rush hour delays at Britain's busiest railway station after it arriving too early by mistake.
The error made by a signaller led to the train Mayflower being allowed to arrive at London Waterloo ahead of schedule on Tuesday morning, an industry source said.

This caused several hours of disruption for passengers travelling to the station on South Western Railway (SWR) services.

Yes it was just shown on the ITV evening News...…….wouldn't want to be the signaller in question!!!
3243  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Rail Delivery Group's Fair Fare consultation - outcome on: June 08, 2019, 08:54:31
* “More than eight in 10 (85%) think it’s important that the fares system is updated to enable flexible workers to save money.

Or in other words (as I read it) “we don’t want to pay peak rate fares and we want cheaper railway tickets.” Or, in some cases, “its not fair that I have to pay £100 for my peak return to Paddington when other people only pay £20 with an advance ticket, so we should both pay the same.

It's not just about peak rate fares.  There are also a lot of commuters who use the train 3 or 4 days a week and therefore can't take advantage of season ticket discounts.  And there are others who work night shift and so day returns don't suit them very well.

That's a very good point - the world of work is changing, fewer and fewer people work 9-5 and the railways should reflect this - a lot of people work flexibly and/or from home 1 or 2 days a week, a "loadable" season ticket which is on an Oyster (Smartcard system used by passengers on Transport for London services) card type system and is valid for 30 days worth of trips rather than a calendar month would be a good step forward.
3244  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: IETs into passenger service from 16 Oct 2017 and subsequent performance issues on: June 03, 2019, 18:46:03
Worth remembering as the blame is shifted between GWR (Great Western Railway) & Hitachi that this is first and foremost a problem for customers, and try not to lose sight of the impact on them as a consequence of shortforms etc.
3245  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Cutdown 125's to operate Penzance to Plymouth clockface service on: June 02, 2019, 10:08:59
A great example of what can be achieved through partnership working.

Do you mean the partnership between Network Rail and GWR (Great Western Railway) that was needed to get bobm out of the deckchair?

 Wink Tongue Grin

If that was the case he'd probably be stuck there for a good few months and it would cost him a fortune to be extracted from it!  Cheesy

Did any members experience/have any knowledge of this? Sounds pretty awful, people still stranded at Paddington at 0430.

Engineering work is taking place between London Paddington and Heathrow, closing all lines.

No TfL» (Transport for London - about) Rail services will run between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 4 between 23:20 on Saturday and 09:00 on Sunday.

Customers for these services should use alternative routes.

Yes got that, but I think the issue was that the promised provision of buses between London & Reading was chaotic & woefully inadequate, (GWR (Great Western Railway) tweets seem to bear this out) to the point of eventually giving up & putting people in taxis at 0430.....apparently only one member of staff present to marshal the whole thing.

3249  Journey by Journey / Transport for London / Re: Climate change protests to target overground? on: June 01, 2019, 20:43:56
Notwithstanding the activities of hypocritical luvvies, I hope that anyone from "Extinction Rebellion" moronic enough to put lives at risk by flying drones near Heathrow is prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

As an aside, are any lives at risk if global heating develops in the way a number of people suggest that it may?

Yes. of course they are, that's not in question. I'm far closer to helping to  alleviate it through my business on a daily basis than you could ever know.
Do you think a proper or acceptable way to mitigate this is to put hundreds of lives at risk by flying drones across Heathrow Airport, or would you agree that it's thoroughly irresponsible and illegal?
3250  Journey by Journey / Transport for London / Re: Climate change protests to target overground? on: June 01, 2019, 07:54:47
Perhaps that might be rephrased?

Underlying sentiment understood!

It certainly wasn't meant literally!  Smiley

3251  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Virgin split ticketing app to cut £1 billion from fares on: June 01, 2019, 07:51:06
It's very good news for the customer, which is the main point, and a step in the right direction towards enabling navigation through the ridiculous labyrinth of fares, and a means by which customers can be more confident that they are getting the best deal.

Personal choice to sit there. Plenty of seats available.

Excellent idea. Let's hope all TOCs (Train Operating Company) are obliged to follow suit.

Extinction rebellion have announced plans to close Heathrow for a day later this month, and then for 10 days next month, unless the planned expansion of Heathrow is cancelled.

That's Emma Thompson buggered then.
