I won't scan and post here (because that would be naughty and in breach of copyright) but if you happen to be near a copy of the current Private Eye (1434) take a look at the foot of p 29. I'm sure you can probably guess the joke but thoroughly amusing anyway!

Also the cartoon at the top of p33 had me chuckling...

9th - looks to me like Church Stretton...?

Please see previous post for details of the fate of any flying machines which mistakenly land in Wiltshire...  Grin

Ah, now... (and here we can get into a real pedant-fest)... runway at Kemble is 08/26 and as prevailing wind is SW, most landings will touch down in Gloucestershire, roll into Wiltshire and then taxi back into Gloucestershire to be scrapped.

I would get out more but my anorak is being dry-cleaned...  Grin

They don't need to take off again. They land and then somebody saws them into little bits!

Careful what you suggest TG - next thing we know, Graham will be organizing a campaign to turn MoD Lyneham civilian and renaming it Melksham International Airport  Wink Grin

And now they have an app (they didn't when I enrolled), you don't really need any of the SMS stuff anyway, although the reminder SMS has been useful on a couple of occasions.
337  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Car Park Price Rises Dec16 on: November 13, 2016, 09:23:10
OK - I've solved the mystery and uncovered something slightly sneaky:

The prices shown at https://www.gwr.com/plan-journey/journey-information/travel-connections/car-parking are the current rates, not the new ones.

The reason I thought there was a discrepancy on the APCOA (Car parking company used at GWR (Great Western Railway) - controlled stations in the area) Connect price is because they charge 10p per SMS they send to you (you can opt out of the service but it automatically opts you in when you join) and I don't recall it being blindinly obvious that the service is chargeable. So the daily 'Connect' rate at 2165 (Swindon Main) is £7.70 plus two lots of 10p = £7.90.

Caveat emptor. But if it caught me out, I bet there are others who are unaware of that little add-on.

Looks like Swindon have stayed the same.

If you follow the link in the first post, Swindon has gone down. It suggests the 'by phone' tariff (i.e. APCOA (Car parking company used at GWR (Great Western Railway) - controlled stations in the area) Connect) for Swindon West Main (2165) is £7.70. It's currently £7.90.

Am I missing something?

Failed freight train apparently.

No, you can log on from a UK (United Kingdom)-based provider. Just change the country drop-down box in the top right-hand corner to somewhere else and it works.

There are probably other ways to restrict you getting a pass later in the process though.
341  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: 21 October 2016 - 19:03 Paddington to Penzance terminated at Reading on: October 27, 2016, 17:07:19

I would suggest that as the front portion is for stations beyond Reading, that MOST of the front portion need not be platformed, perhaps only the last couple of vehicles of the front portion, and the entire rear portion.
Taunton already has very long platforms that would accept most of an extra long train, with perhaps just the rear two and the front two not being platformed.

Would that actually work in practice? Wouldn't the front of the train then be out of section and quite possibly be fouling something?

344  Journey by Journey / London to South Wales / Re: Newly named train to mark re-opening of Severn Tunnel - Y Cymro - 'The Welshman' on: October 24, 2016, 22:18:26
Is it the intention that the Y Cymro power car(s) will always form the 0728 from Swansea? Doesn't that make it rather restrictive for GWR (Great Western Railway)? They already have the challenge of keeping the green sets together. I'd have thought it must make the maintenance schedule something of a nightmare.
345  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: A Bell(s) of a job on: October 16, 2016, 20:24:32
I suggest you write to Messrs. Diageo at once and make your dissatisfaction known. You never know; they might send you a case. I'll PM you my home address for my share Grin
