Yes but that would involve going to site and having to do some work. Why bother to do that when you can trawl a few photos and comments from social media, string a tenuous story together and then get on with playing Angry Birds?

Better than Danish trains where the sockets are just below the luggage rack. More than once I have nearly strangled myself in the trailing cables.

Only one socket per pair of seats? Arm-wrestle you for it... Although no different to the current (no pun intended) arrangement in Standard, I suppose.

It's interesting that Denmark and Finland which seem to be the happiest countries in Europe are also pretty highly taxed wonder if there's a correlation?

There's a direct correlation. Although taxation itself never makes anyone happy, the services it provides - if done well - can be beneficial. There's a fun but interesting read - A Year of Living Danishly - written by an English journalist who went to live in Billund in Denmark which explains a lot.

Whatever happened to the IPEMU (Independely Powered Electic Multiple Unit (train running on batteries)) - http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=16320.0 - that was being tested in Essex? I'm not sure there was ever any post-trial discussion here?

For some reason it brings to mind the Star Ferry Terminal in Hong Kong but... your archive gives it away: New York?

South West Trains has suspended an employee after a message appearing to support Brexit was put up on the side of a train.

The words "Vote Out" appeared on a digital sign on a train travelling from London to Woking on Monday.

South West Trains said the company had "no position" on the issue of the upcoming EU» (European Union - about) referendum.

It said any referendum message would have been put on without the company's knowledge or authorisation.

An internal investigation is to be carried out into the matter, the company said.

The in-out referendum on the UK (United Kingdom)'s membership of the European Union takes place on 23 June.

My tongue was fairly firmly in my cheek when I typed that (I should have added an emoticon), but that's interesting to know. That must represent one of the highest percentages of preservation for any type of loco or DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit)/EMU (Electric Multiple Unit)?

They should have kept those Southern Region Motorized Luggage Vans that could run or 3rd rail or battery!

Interesting. The police are normally pretty strict about not moving abloads at peak times. They would normally require the loads to be held and then moved later in the day after peak traffic has subsided.

And it's not as if one of the increasingly popular social media funding appeals would help: I'd imagine many of those models are scratch-built and therefore labours-of-love. By the same token it does make them very traceable so I hope the police have success in tracking them down.

From what I have read on these pages over the years it would seem that the Jeremy Clarkson fix-all - a large hammer - would be most appropriate for 57s.

Surely the era of clipping tickets should have ended before now anyway? I know we have discussed this before but we are long overdue more general electronic ticketing on the network: that would put an end to ticket punches.
