British Transport Police (BTP▸ ) is appealing for information after a pensioner sustained serious head injuries at Cardiff Central railway station.
The incident, which occurred around 12.20pm on Friday, 13 January, left the 75-year-old man with a fractured skull.
Detective Inspector Mark Cleland said: ^A man, who had suffered a head injury, was found unconscious on platform 6 at Cardiff Central station.
^We are satisfied his injuries were sustained as a result of a fall but we would like to speak to anyone who was at the station at the time.
^The elderly gentleman, who is from the Merthyr area, sustained serious injuries and we are anxious to piece together his movements prior to his collapse.^
The man is currently in a stable condition and remains at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. His injuries are not life-threatening.
^It is believed he was at the station to catch a train home to Merthyr and may have used the lift for platforms 6 and 7,^ said DI Cleland.
^Having spoken to station staff and doctors at the hospital, we are satisfied the man was not assaulted. However, we would still like to speak to anyone who was on platforms 6 or 7 at the time.
^We are particularly keen to speak to a woman who raised the alarm after seeing the man lying on the floor.
^A duty manager who responded did not have an opportunity to take her details as he was busy dealing with the injured man.
^I would ask that woman to come forward so we can get a full account of what she saw or heard.^
