It was the complete lack of unchecked vegetation encroaching onto the platform that made me suspect it might not be Redland ...  Tongue Roll Eyes Grin

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

Train carrying SouthWest Trains livery used to illustrate a story about level crossing upgrades on Chester-Wrexham line...

Quote

Level crossings on the railway line between Wrexham and Chester are being upgraded to improve safety and increase the number of journeys.

Four crossings will be changed from half barriers to full ones and extra track will be laid.

Work is being done at crossings in Balderton, Rossett, Saltney and Pulford which will see some road closures.

Public meetings will be held, starting on Wednesday, to discuss the work with people in the area.

James Jackson of Network Rail Wales said: "We are carrying out work which will allow for more frequent and faster journeys for the increasing numbers of passengers travelling between north and south Wales.

"I'd like to apologise for any disruption this work may cause and thank the local community for their patience."

From The Guardian

200 disgruntled passengers stop Bristol train and walk along tracks

The incident happened in the Redland area of Bristol, shortly after the service left Clifton Down railway station. Photograph: Sean Smith for the Guardian

Not Redland, IMHO (in my humble opinion).

The Bristol Post however did manage a relevant actual photo of the incident so wouldn't have taken much for the Guardian to get a relevant photo

This one has a interior shot of the train

Not wishing to underplay the serious nature of this incident but my first thought on seeing that photograph is that the chap on the luggage rack might be BNM or BobM returning home from one of their whisky sampling trips........ Tongue Grin

A classic from the Bristol Post, the only paper where "Bus breaks down" is big news.

Bristol traffic: Busy lane closed in city centre
By Michael_Yong  |  Posted: October 02, 2015

Traffic is queuing after a bus broke down

A busy lane is closed in Bristol city centre after a bus broke down.

Officers are redirecting traffic after the bus stopped working on Lower Castle Street southbound, between Broad Weir, Penn Street and Castle Street.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area as traffic begins to queue.

The italics are mine, to show the caption of the photograph of the traffic beginning to back up through the underpass earlier today. The photographer had to wait, presumably, until the miserable rain had stopped, and the sky had brightened a bit. And until colleagues had finished rebuilding the Post's printing house, demolished in January 2011.

Yup that picture certainly wasn't taken today. I am somewhat saddened by the standard that we now see in local journalism with these awful advertising strewn websites doing them no favours. It just all looks so tacky. However, I'm all to aware that is what is keeping many local rags going.

I agree, and it is even worse when you are halfway through reading an article and the sound from an advert suddenly pipes up!

Or the advert just completely hijacks your screen so you can't read the article, you hit the X only for another flamin' advert to appear. It was so bad on the Bath Chronicle site one day last week that I gave up.

Before anyone says 'well buy the paper then', you can't...it only comes out once a week on a Thursday.

Final rant about the news part of their website is they fill it with stories from other parts of the country, national lottery results and celeb trash. I just want local news. What is so difficult about that?

I get none of this advert nonsense. Google Chrome or IE11 with Adblocker seems to do the trick. I have just gone Windows 10 on two out of three PCs, and Edge does sometime garner adverts and other annoying spam.

Can I pick you up on your use of the word 'local'? From where I'm sitting in north Bristol, Didcot isn't really what I'd call local.

Eh?  Timmer lives in Bath, and was referring to the Bath Chronicle?  Undecided
