Why is this train so frequently cancelled.  It is a popular commuter train from Swindon, or would be except that it is so frequently cancelled many passengers use the earlier (less convenient) train.

Does if form the start of the intermediate daytime service which provides the half hourly Cardiff - Paddington trains by adding to the hourly Swansea - Paddington service?   It's my understanding that this extra service is regarded as something of an extra, and is the first to be withdrawn in the event of operational difficulties as all the withdrawal does is put people back 30 minutes.

Since this thread ran, I've noticed it cropping up many times here.  I think it's the first time I've seen this reason:

07:15 London Paddington to Cardiff Central due 09:24 This train will be cancelled.
This is due to overhead wire problems.

Heathrow Express is suspended, so perhaps they are using the opportunity to get in some early practice for the future. . .

Some Paddington to Cardiffs and return cancelled later in week, as usual, to provide resources for Glastonbury extras.     Is there any derogation in the Franchise Spec to cover such occurrences which operate for Cheltenham races also ?
