Perhaps there needs to be a sliding scale of messages displayed on the screens to explain passenger loading:

Sardines
Swing a cat
Intimate
Cosy
Comfortable
Relaxing

I totally agree..  We definitely need at least one ahead of Sardines though.. if not two... Sardines is almost preferable

How times have changed, and how much busier the railways are these days.  I travelled to school on a quiet train (granted, it was contraflow) but how things have changed ...

I was at Reading station last Tuesday afternoon waiting to catc h the late-running 1622 to Worcester Shrub Hill, and I noticed that a train coming into Platform 10A to London (the 1426 Adelante from Gt Malvern) was reported to be 'full and standing'. When it came in, I looked and the 4 standard carriages did seem to be pretty full, with a few people standing at the end of the carriages. The 1st class carriage though only had 2 passengers so in reality, the train was only about 80% full. Perhaps the displays should say 'Standard Class Full & Standing'.
