We have a Cornwall Crescent, a Somerset Crescent, a Dorset Cresent and a Wiltshire Crescent just up the road from where I live in Melksham. And it struck me we could while away the hot afternoons with a game of "West Country Cresent".   It's played to the rules of Mornington Cresent, using main network rather than underground stations.  Diagonal shifts on lines served only by diesel trains are not permitted as obviosuly that would shorten the game, and the objective is not to get to Mornington Crescent but to Melksham.

I's going to start you at St Budeaux Ferry Road

I believe that in one of the sub-paragraphs of Stovold's Mornington Crescent Almanac, there is reference to a move being permitted on foot in daylight hours. Such a move can be made outside the traditional area of the Mornington Crescent game, and as the opening move finds us at St Budeaux Ferry Road, I offer up the move, on foot, to:

St Budeaux Victoria Road.

If that's a move to Bath Spa, I think I can then slide over to St. Andrew's Road since today's a Monday.

Sorry, but I have to cry foul.

St Budeaux Victoria Road direct to Bath Spa cannot possibly be allowed. I can see no way that the rules permit such a move.

To that end, I'm lodging an official appeal to the F^ration Internationale des r^gles Mornington Crescent

I therefore contend that we are still at St Budeaux Victoria Road.

While I love I am Sorry I haven't a clue I confess I have never understood Mornington Crescent.  I know that is partly the point - but even so it frustrates me no end!

Ah yes - I got my Ferry Road and Victoria Roads mixed up - as I understand it that makes the move to Bath Spa a diesel diagonal shift which isn't permitted (yet) in this variety.  Come 2016 it will be cool.   Let's carry on at Starcross as that's clearly a valid follow under umpire's discretion from Victoria Road or from Bath Spa.

I am struggling to apply the Mornington Crescent Rules to the Network, but I'll have a go.  Noting the phase of the Moon and the reintroduction of freight services to the erstwhile Mortonhampstead branch, I'm moving to Ivybridge.

I blame a signal failure and the permanent 15mph Speed Restriction on the Tamar Bridge Cheesy

I'm moving to Ivybridge.

In that case I resurrect my original statement of Bath Spa by way of the IVY SPA closely associated to an American Spa in Minneapolis and Bath Spa also having the Thermae Bath Spa...

Have I got it right yet??

No.

I think you're trying to apply the Duckworth-Lewis method; a schoolboy error when the barometer is this high.

So, I think one of the preceding players had a time machine and we've ended up at Mortenhampstead. So I offer up Halwill Junction by bus via Okehampton.

A move by bus is permitted when no alternative by rail is possible. I refer folks to my made up interpretation of the rules.
