Hi all.

My name is Dave. I live in Bristol and am a regular user of the train service between Bristol Temple Meads and Severn Beach which I find great value for commuting between Bristol Temple Meads and Sea Mills (my nearest station). Sadly that will probably not be the case for much longer though as the vehicle depot I work from is shortly moving from just next to Temple Meads to just off Southmead Road, Filton.  Sad

I terms of hobbies and spare time I am an enthusiast for mechanical signalling & signalboxes. I also enjoy listening to the world on my shortwave radio and photography. Photography and my interests in mechanical signalling combine.

I hope that I will be able to make some useful contributions to this forum.

A very warm welcome to forum!

I share your interest in signalling, particularly the mechanical 'boxes which were once a common sight all over the railway network.  In more recent times I have also taken up photography and some of my efforts appear in various places on the forum.

I hope you enjoy your time here, and look forward to reading your contributions.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your welcome. I have photos of the boxes between Liskeard and Penzance, excluding St. Blazey and Goonbarrow Junction (both Newquay branch). I don't think either will be easy to photograph if I ever get to try. It will be a shame when they go which, I believe, is to be sometime between 2017 & 2020.

Aptly enough my avatar is the down starter at Lostwithiel. It is a pity, however, that the avatar can't be a bit bigger as some users have rectangular avatars. What is the maximum size for an avatar?

We have a slight problem with avatars at the moment (as I discovered just before Christmas).

There were some software issues last year and we are still finding little quirks which are being fixed when time allows.  One of them is avatars.  If you had a larger avatar before the problems and don't change it, you are fine.  If you do, or are new to the forum - as in your case - you can only have a smaller one.  I am not sure what the maximum dimensions are but it likes both you and I are close to the current limit.
