I hold for Saturday 23/11 two Off peak Day Returns from Redruth to Plymouth, with Devon and Cornwall (D+C) Railcard discount.
Is it possible to excess on the day to add a Plusbus ticket? It is looking likely we will be catching a bus from Plymouth to Derriford hospital, as it is further than I initially thought (I intended walking station to Derriford when I booked, visiting relative, booked online as I had Red Spotted Hanky e-vouchers to use by end of the month).
Can I pay an excess on board or before I travel at Redruth ticket office for the Plusbus?
Can I get D+C Railcard Discount on the Plusbus if I am able to excess?

Thanks in advance.

PlusBus fares are now always sold as a separate ticket. For your purposes you will need a Plymouth-Plymouth PlusBus ticket.

If you already have a rail ticket then just show this at a ticket office (or on board if the ticket office is closed) asking for PlusBus at your destination.

The Devon & Cornwall Railcard does not, as far as I'm aware, give a discount on PlusBus tickets. Only National Railcard holders are eligible for a discount.

A Plymouth-Plymouth PlusBus rail issued ticket will cost you ^3.20.

Thanks BNM a station to Derriford is ^3.30 return, so not a massive saving but all adds up!
Plymouth city bus seem to be the first bus company I've come across with fares on their website!

Just a warning.  I have asked for this twice on board a train and on both occasions the TM(resolve)/Conductor agreed it should be possible but didn't know how to do it.

If buying on board via Avantix (Ticket Issuing System used on board trains) ask for:

Origin: PLYMOUTH (or 3580)
Destination: PLYMOUTH+BUS (or J933)

Without wishing to hijack the thread, what are the codes for Swindon and Bracknell Plusbus?

The codes can be found when entering the long name 'ANYTOWN'+BUS into brfares.com.

SWINDON+BUS: J944
BRACKNELL+BUS: H605

The lady at Redruth ticket office issued the plusbus very quickly and very polite and helpful.

Glad to hear it all went swimmingly.

When queries like this pop up, there is a habit (indeed, often a need) to cover all bases, due to the complexity of the fares system and the different ways tickets can be purchased. In the majority of cases though, staff are more than capable, and as you pointed out, also polite and helpful.

The public grumbles about the sale of tickets on forums and through social media are rarely representative of the overall picture. Day in, day out, staff sell oodles of tickets efficiently and provide excellent service. All of us are quick to use the tools at our disposal to complain or comment after poor service, however, sometimes it's worth remembering to offer praise when praise is due. So well done to the member of staff at Redruth ticket office.

Hector was snuggled up behind her. The female Train Manager/ Guard/ Conductor (delete as appropriate) was also a lovely cheerful lady as well on the 0830 from Redruth. Seemed to be a lot of happy FGW (First Great Western) staff in Cornwall this morning!

I believe that, as per the Rule Book, all Train Managers are Guards, all Conductors are Guards, and all, er, Guards are Guards.  Grin
