As a part of the TransWilts Community Interest Company vision for the future, the group has been looking at potential station sites where there is a possibility of their being a business case.   I'm posting here a quick sanity check from an operational / physical layout perspective.

If any of these happened it would be 'huge' - most recent openings otherwise were Dilton Marsh in 1937 and Melksham in 1985.

Corsham
- No need for signalling changes
- MAY be an issue with elecrification masts if they go in and block platform. Not seen any WC (Wiltshire Council (Unitary Authority)) feedback
- use of existing bridge(s) sensible
- need some parking and sighting for TVM (Ticket Vending Machine) / some sort of shelter on both platforms (flows both ways)
- 2 express passenger trains per hour + 1 proposed regional; very limited freight. No capacity issue.
- Reversal of trains not planned

Royal Wootton Bassett (on Swindon line / platform alongside running lines)
- 6 express passenger trains per hour + 1 Southampton + 1 Bristol; freight from 3 routes.  Impractical???
- No need for signalling changes
- MAY be an issue with elecrification masts if they go in and block platform.
- need some parking and sighting for TVM / some sort of shelter on both platforms (flows both ways)
- Bridging issue / station bridge needed
- only ways for this to work are likely to be with loops and very expensive indeed, but this is the RWB council aspiration

Royal Wootton Bassett (on Chippenham line)
- Probably no need for signalling changes (SN45 correctly sighted)
- MAY be an issue with elecrification masts if they go in and block platform.
- use of existing bridge(s) sensible, but needs extra attached pathway
- need some parking and sighting for TVM / some sort of shelter on both platforms (flows both ways)
- 2 express passenger trains per hour + 1 Southampton + 1 Bristol; some freight. No capacity issue under normal circumstances
- Parkway parking / Motorway access / Lyneham access to be considered
- Might need minor signalling changes to reverse trains there from Swindon (NOT planned, though)

Wilton
- No need for signalling changes
- No electrification issue
- use of existing bridge(s) sensible
- sighting for TVM in P&R (Park and Ride) building / some sort of shelter on both platforms (flows both ways)
- Cardiff / Portsmouth to stop. TransWilts Swindon to Southampton to stop. Some freight.
- May need a few more changes (to be advised) if trains to reverse there (to add extras from London)

Porton
- To be investigated more fully
- No need for signalling changes
- 2 passenger trains per hour. No capacity issue under normal circumstnces
- No electrification issue
- Reversal of trains not planned

Devizes Parkway
- To be investigated more fully
- No need for signalling changes
- 1 or 2 passenger trains per hour. No capacity issue under normal circumstnces
- Timetable very much up in the air for future years
- No electrification issue
- Reversal of trains not planned

As we discussed at the Easter meetings, you will need to include Bathampton Parkway as a proposed station, both in the Vision itself and on the map.

This is particularly important given that the latest briefing from the lead scheme promoter that I was present at (end of last week) stated that funding was near enough confirmed, and they now aim to have the station open within the next 4 years.

What we don't want is to appear to be promoting/developing a rival vision that omits Bathampton Parkway, while others are busy building it.
