From a Cross Country Trains Press Release

Quote
From reading to flirting - nation of multi-taskers making the most of train journeys

From Reading to Tooting, perhaps?   But no ...

Quote
People living in Leicester have looked for love, with one in seven (15%) admitting to flirting with a fellow traveller or member of staff

In all seriousness, the article / survey does take a very interesting look at the use people make of their travel time, and rather confirms that people can (and do) do a lot of things during their train journeys which they could not safely do behind the wheel of a car.

If travel time on a train is useful quality time, and time behind a wheel is largely wasted (and indeed tiring), why are we so obsessed with the comparisons of how long journeys take? For sure, I could do without a wait of 63 minutes between arriving into Bath Spa in the evening from London and getting the "late bus" to Melksham ... but then the survey hasn't asked what people do with their waiting time in bus stations ...

Find the nearest pub...

Although on occasions the nearest pub is sometimes so far away that its not worth the risk of missing your connection

Thinking about instead of waitng at, you can't wait in, the magnificent bus station in Slough I could stand in teh doorway of the Moon and Spoon and watch for the 75 to Maidenhead trun into to the bus statuion and then wander over to the first bus stop on route after leaving the bus station which is about 100 yards!
