From station to station, back to Bristol city....

I'm planning a birthday trip for my better half to RHS Hampton Court Show on either Sat 9th or Sun 10th July going by train from Bristol on a day return basis. This would mean to Waterloo or Paddington and I'm looking into the possibilities of including dining on either the outward or return journey. I'm posting to our learned Coffee Shop members for advice on availabily and the best price options. Would want to arrive London 10.00am latest and returns from about 18.00 onwards. Any advice won!d be much appreciated.

If you were thinking of the Pullman it doesn't operate at weekends.....Other than that, GWR (Great Western Railway) catering is pretty grim to the point of non existent.....not something that'd impress the Mrs!

Thanks TaplowGreen, it was as I feared. Will look at getting best ticket price and meal out somewhere.

My thanks again TaplowGreen. Am now researching best price for Waterloo route as well as Paddington. London seems pretty spilt ticketing proof from Bristol so far but I continue undaunted.

Perhaps a "calling International Rescue" appeal to BNM may now be appropriate.

BNM is The Oracle on everything, not just trains so a good shout! Have you tried splitting at Didcot Parkway?

TWO...

ONE...

bignosemac is go!!!

I'll echo the earlier suggestion of an Off Peak Day Return from a a Severn Beach Line station (you can start short at Bristol TM(resolve)) to Hampton Court via route: Warminster/Salisbury for ^34.10. Or the Off Peak Day Travelcard same route to Zones 1-6 for ^38.70. This is a fairly slow journey though, upwards of 3 hours. You can upgrade on the day to Weekend 1st for ^15 ( if you travel to/from Bristol TM on a South West Trains through service - 3 a day Saturdays) or ^10 if each way if you change onto SWT (South West Trains) at Salisbury. No complimentary refreshments on SWT.

Or, for a quicker journey. Bristol TM or Bristol Parkway to Hampton Court via Didcot Parkway, splitting there. Trains you use MUST call at Didcot Parkway.

Bristol TM/Bristol PW (Permanent Way) - Didcot Parkway Off Peak Day Return ^23.30, plus

Didcot Parkway - Hampton Court (route: +Any Permitted - valid via Paddington) Off Peak Day Return ^28.10, or
Didcot Parkway - Hampton Court ( route Not via London - change at Reading and Clapham Junction) Off Peak Day Return ^24.30, or
Didcot Parkway - London Zones 1-6 (route: Any Permitted) Off Peak Day Travelcard ^29.50.

Weekend 1st upgrade with GWR (Great Western Railway) to/from Reading/Paddington is ^15 each way. Complimentary refreshments.

The Travelcard options are, whichever way you decide to go, probably your best bet. You then have flexibility to go elsewhere in London on the day for that meal.
