From Railway Technology - deal this week from last October (something I had clearly missed!

Quote
Great Western Railway has awarded a £6m ($7.28m) contract to Petards, a security and surveillance solutions provider based in the UK (United Kingdom), to design, develop, supply and install eyeTrain systems to its Class 165 and 166 diesel multiple unit (DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit)) trains.

The eyeTrain technology is designed to improve passenger safety and reduce operation costs by providing onboard train video products, and sensing solutions such as driver-only operation systems, condition-based monitoring, and passenger counting.

Engineering development of the integrated systems has already started, with completion scheduled in 2017, to be followed by the deliveries towards the end of 2018.

Posted under "Bristol Commuters" because the trains will be based at St Phillip's Marsh by the time the systems are delivered, and it'll be Bristolians that the systems will be countering and who's condition they'll be monitoring!

Already is quite extensively. Isn't the UK (United Kingdom) estimated to have more CCTV (Closed Circuit Tele Vision) cameras per capita than any other country on the planet?

Playing irritating advertising films on an endless loop, like on the Heathrow Express. Every passenger (oops, railway customer!) can be your company's customer too!

That's more or less what I took that bit of "post-meaning" PR (Public Relations) to mean at first. But given the rest of the words, I suspect that's more likely to be video handling and recording stuff to go with the cameras. But who knows?

I think it might also be for the in cab CCTV (Closed Circuit Tele Vision) for DOO (Driver-Only Operation (that is, trains which operate without carrying a guard)).

... but no wi-fi on ATW, much to the disgust of my student travelling between Bangor and Nailsea.  Roll Eyes

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

The metro systems in many European cities commonly show up to date news, weather and upcoming events as well as advertising on their trains. All without sound. I would have no problem with that.

Certainly it's much less irritating without sound.
