Posting "Across the West" for the forgotten thousands ....

Network Rail western route managing director Mark Langman said: “This will boost local communities and provide a better service for passengers travelling in Berkshire, across the Thames Valley and West London.

“We are working very hard with GWR^▸ (Great Western Railway) to minimise disruption to passengers while we deliver electrification to Newbury.

“Owing to the scale of the work we will be doing this over periods of several days.

“I thank the communities in Newbury and across Berkshire for their patience in advance of the upgrade.”

and

GWR managing director Mark Hopwood said: “We have worked hard to ensure we have produced a train and bus service that supports the local economy while also allowing Network Rail the vital access it needs to the railway to electrify the route.”

Good to know that the works will boost local communities across Berkshire.  I note that Mr Langman has chosen only to thank the communities in Newbury and Bershire for their patience, rather than all the communities effected!

Similar to Mark Hopwood and his "favoritism" for he Cotswolds.    Passengers on diverted trains yesterday evening would have been caught up in the signalling problems at Swindon.

As the quote was given to the Newbury Weekly News it was probably tailored for their area.  In days of yore it didn't matter as the paper wasn't readily available outside West Berkshire.  Now of course the internet spreads the story far and wide.
