Near riot at Melksham Station with first two trains cancelled at short notice when people were told to wait for the next train 86 minutes later. Even on a Sunday, and with the cancellation advise online 60 minutes earlier, there were 17 people waiting at the station.
Big THANK YOU to the people at GWR▸ who we eventually reached and who laid on taxis. I know some of you are friends here - please note that even though this train is a recent addition to the timetable, it's already getting significant use for people who rely on it to get to work.
Note for other readers - TransWilts looking forward to much reduced cancellations soon. We have words of promise - just need the deeds now!
"Like"d by several - including key contact who happened to be one of the people I thanked. Other correspondence during the day too about sensitive trains. We are steering a fine line; we could reduce our effectiveness by complaining about every cancellation when the chaps on the ground have only limited resources at the moment; the loss of the evening round trip is not (
IMHO▸ ) as bad, as few will be stranded in a brutal, cold, unstaffed industrial estate (Melksham Station); rather the people are where there are staff and other people around and with tongues in their heads, they can get taxi-ed.
In this back area of the forum - I am very much aware that the tongues may not be able to express themselves well and speak up for their right to travel on what would be the last train. Also aware that it's a waste of resource to lay on an
alliterative alternative if it only arrive at destination a few minutes ahead of the next (running) train.
