From May, all advance purchase tickets (looks like every TOC (Train Operating Company), not just FGW (First Great Western)) will become known as "Advance" tickets,
from September Standard day tickets will become "Anytime day single/return", standard open will become "anytime single/return", savers/cheap days etc will become "off peak/off peak day" singles/returns, and special offers such as the Devon evening fare etc will become "super off peak", At last some simplification of fares!!!! and only one advance fare!

Only one advance fare? Not in particular as there will be differentiating levels of AP, ie, A, B, C. Then First class advance....  Grin Grin Grin

No more Firstminutefares! Cheesy

But, bring it on- at last some tickets whose description helps you decide which services they can/can't be used on!

But- will they use it as an excuse to bump up fares, reduce the number of cheaper tickets, or extend the "peak" hours?  Angry

I doubt it - they are essentially just renames of already existing fares.

Not possible - at least at Melksham.  They've withdrawn all the off peak trains already so that a day return to London has already gone up from under 50 pounds (November 2006) to over 100 pounds (March 2008).  If they were to provide a train at - say - around a quarter past 9 that gave a good connection as Westbury for London, they could get an awful lot of 50 pound fares for just a tiny bit of extra mileage Cheesy
