Next week I will be travelling on 0741 ex - Penzance and was wondering what the catering provision in 1st class on weekdays is these days, does at seat trolley only operate from Plymouth and if so are complimentary items collected from buffet ? What range of hot food do buffet counters sell since the demise of travelling chef ? TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack (aka "mini-stroke")) as GWR (Great Western Railway) is vague about what is available/when.

The first class weekday menu can be found here:
https://www.gwr.com/~/media/gwr/pdfs/menus/first-class/first-class-weekday-menu.pdf?la=en

I'm not sure what the buffet still stocks in terms of hot food as I'm a vegetarian. I remember there was one item I could eat that was hot. A cheese topped bread concoction which may or may not have had mushrooms in it. They always used to have a bacon roll for the omnivores. I would have suggested going to Sullivan's Diner before boarding but I understand that's now closed.

What? When did that happen?  It's ALWAYS been open....(hasn't it)?

Sullivan’s is still trading, or at least was when I was in Penzance last week and are in the Penzance bus running day program as a sponsor of driver beverages
Mr Sullivan passed away a little while back, it closed for a few weeks then his daughter reopened it, I believe it’s hours are 7-3 niw

Is that the one outside the station in the van or the one inside adjacent to the ticket office?  The latter has been closed for a while.

Seems to be over the road from the station by the car park: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186240-d1998569-Reviews-Sullivans_Diner-Penzance_Cornwall_England.html

Last year I had a bacon roll from the van right outside the station and it was awful!

Seems to be taking a long time.   There was also talk of one at Truro, not sure if that is still on the cards.

The Truro one is in the process of being built on platform three, I reckon a few more weeks. The car park is being done as well

If Truro and Penzance can support 1st Class lounges then surely major stations such as Plymouth and Bristol can too.

Needn't be permanently staffed. Video door entry as used in many lounges on the E/WCMLs (West Coast Main Line)

Plymouth's is called the James Street Vaults, only about 5 minutes away, lovely pint of Tribute.

The Sleeper lounges in Penzance/Truro have had a financial contribution from Cornwall council.

Another thing cornwall council are splashing cash on for public transport. I’m glad my huge council tax increase is to a good cause!

That might explain it, thanks for the clarification. My information is second hand from someone who tried to get breakfast there recently.
