Just heard on Radio 4 Today programme that a Labour government would re-regulate bus services and introduce free bus travel for under 25's. Anyone else listening to Auntie Beeb or are the pigs on the verge of being awarded their wings ?

.......... and apparently Chris Grayling is extending half-price rail travel to under-19s in full-time education (or so he claimed on BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) Breakfast) when asked to explain why prices were going up.

I saw Chris Greyling's interview. I couldn't really see what his message was. He implied that fares shouldn't rise so much, yet wasn't able to change this immediately (who would be more senior to him to make that ruling) and also din't give the impression that he was dissatisfied with the poor service last year. Usually an interview of this type has a strong point, but that was lost on me.

I didn't hear it but I'm sure I've heard/read of similar plans. I'm sure they are meant seriously – not that that means they would necessarily be implemented even in the event of a Labour government, of course.

Because staff costs are too high, and it takes time and a fight to implement DOO (Driver-Only Operation (that is, trains which operate without carrying a guard)) and destaff or reduce staff numbers at stations.

Nope. It's to be a Railcard extending child fares to 16-17 year olds.

And huge demand, we all WANT to go by train, but it seems every hurdle is put in our way, price, delays, poor conditions on board, such as overcrowding, no facliities, or paying full price of an evening, to have a whole 444 coach to youself. my pet hate.
