Another site hit by Google price increases, that will need to find an alternative source. Have Bing maps also upped their rates?
I also use https://zoom.earth/ but possibly not quite the same thing.

It is the first site I have found that explains the changes at Google.  Others just soldier on with the broken maps.

The danger of relying on data feeds ... but then you "have to" at times. No maps on the Coffee Shop but we do rely on rail industry data feeds.  We *could* plot onto real maps (and I have some test code using Google which is below their charging threshold) but then we risk a dependency which makes us captive to changes in their pricing model - not quite "blackmail" because they threaten nothing illegal.  Just like the .eu domain registry I was writing about to 'Frequent Posters" a short while back.

Ordnance Survey have an API of free data. There again your experience of other government "departments" might cool any enthusiasm!

You can find out more about how this forum works [here] - that will link you to a copy of the forum agreement that you can read before you join, and tell you very much more about how we operate. We are an independent forum, provided and run by customers of Great Western Railway, for customers of Great Western Railway and we welcome railway professionals as members too, in either a personal or official capacity. Views expressed in posts are not necessarily the views of the operators of the forum.

As well as posting messages onto existing threads, and starting new subjects, members can communicate with each other through personal messages if they wish. And once members have made a certain number of posts, they will automatically be admitted to the "frequent posters club", where subjects not-for-public-domain are discussed; anything from the occasional rant to meetups we may be having ...
