Graham, I suspect you’ve posted this to provoke a response, so I’ll take the bait.
I am at a loss to understand why GWR▸ is so obsessed with Pride. What Pride represents is of no relevance to GWR as a train operator. I presume First operate bus services in some of these towns and cities, and that these will be seriously disrupted while people in fancy dress and garish makeup etc block the streets.
I have posted as an information piece; some may wish to attend, others to avoid because of the traffic chaos, busier trains, etc. Always hard to know which special events to add. Probably should add Womad, Bristol balloons, etc.
I suggest it would be more constructive to support, say the Samaritans. If publicity for them saved even one life (and one day’s disruption to passengers) it would be worthwhile. How about naming an IET▸ “The Samaritans – always there to listen”?
I don't think it's an "either / or". Both could be done; both should be individually considered. I would ask for expert advise before recommending any sort of Samaritains parade - action for Cancer , yes YES - informing the public - by all means. Always that fear (in my uninformed mind) that publicity could give people ideas.
