If you are at a loss for what to do over the Bank Holiday weekend, Cycling UK (United Kingdom) have launched The King Alfred's Way
https://www.cyclinguk.org/press-release/new-350km-road-bike-route-launched-southern-england
[Have pointed out to them it is Ordnance Survey not Ordinance Survey] And they have changed it.

They do suggest that you ought to allow for British weather

Not sure it is entirely suitable for Brompton. Will have to put the gpx into the mapping package to see what it is like.

Rode a bit of this over the weekend - Reading-Marlborough-Salisbury. Absolutely terrific route, and very definitely not suited for a Brompton. I was on my gravel bike and really appreciated the comfort of fat tyres!

Very much as I expected for some parts of it.

All I have tried is the part just south of Reading. Between the new dual-carriageway south of J11 of the M4 and what most people think of as the old road through Spencers Wood. There is an older road, possible drove way? I tried driving it in a Land-Rover with a colleague about 30 or 40 years ago. It took us best part of a day to cover a few miles as the farmer(s) had dropped trees across the green lane. Since then the farmer's fields have grown a crop of houses and the bridleway is certainly manageable on the Brompton.
