This should be interesting 5 hours on a train - I bought my reservation but it does not include a seat. The train manager tells me that's because the train is fully booked and "stand for 5 hours" is the theory.  I'm sure that in practise it won't be full all the way - seated AT PRESENT but this could be fun. Train Manager confirms I can move around.

Oh "Wider picture Overseas" - not GWR (Great Western Railway)  Grin

...not GWR (Great Western Railway)...

But it could have been one of the SWR» (South Western Railway - about) services on the WoE line!

Out of interest what was your reservation for if not an actual seat?
Was it literally just allowing you onto the service?

I'm not sure ... I suspect that they allow a certain "overspill" number for reservations that don't get taken up.  I asked the chap on the platform who had "can I help you" on his tabard in English and he told me I might have to stay for 5 hours!

The reason I asked, it reminded me when I was on a train from Paddington back to Temple Meads, it was overcrowded and full and standing from London
So I stood with a friend in a vestibule between two first class carriages, when the train Manager came through we were asked to move as we didn't have a first class ticket
Apparently our ticket didn't guarantee a seat, just the ability to travel on that service
