Panic message from a new arrival in the UK (United Kingdom) - in to Stansted and looking to take the train to Edinburgh - "no trains today" and they were looking for somewhere cheap to stay ...  York Mix reminded me this evening of the story

Quote
There’s been another warning to passengers using services from Northallerton, Thirsk, York and Selby to/from London not to travel today.

This was because of problems further down the East Coast Main Line. There has been damage to the power lines between Newark and Grantham.

Many services have been cancelled and others are running over an hour late.

Disruption will last til the end of the day but we are told the lines have now reopened

Checking real time trains (but too late to help), I note Euston to Edinburgh services running.  I wonder if people realised they had the option of another route from just up the road ...

They also had problems yesterday with a trespasser onna viaduct meaning trains were so late, they were turned at Carlisle, several hours late
