Aaand that's why the 90cm maximum length restriction on accompanied luggage now imposed by many TOCs (Train Operating Company) does not meet the needs of the travelling public.

The comfort in the HST (High Speed Train) is not in doubt, but the reason they are going is that they are more than 40 years old and expensive to operate and maintain.

Therefore it is not realistic to ask to keep them, but rather ask for the new stock to be more comfortable and wave resistant.

And perhaps keep HSTs (High Speed Train) for a few more years until new stock that is more comfortable and more wave resistant can be obtained.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.
