Travel & transport from BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) stories as at 22:35 29 Nov 2023
- Sticky Vicky: Legendary Benidorm dancer dies aged 80
- E-Scooters: over half of casualties are outside trial areas
- London travel: Uber launches black cab sign-ups

Our Travel and Transport story feed on the top of forum pages is combed from a BBC data feed, based on keywords found in the title and subtitle.  For the most part, the filtering words well and is reasonable but just occasionally I find myself scratching my head in wonder.  And so it was as I browsed this evening - "Sticky Vicky: Legendary Benidorm dancer dies aged 80" and wondered what she was to do with transport and travel. It turns out that the subtitle is "Sticky Vicky had a legendary status among Brits travelling to the Spanish resort on holiday." and there it is - a travel subject!

I am not proposing to fiddle with the algorithm which seems to work well enough; it's not safety or security code, it's never going to be perfect and always a bit subjective.   I encourage members to post here in "the lighter side" if we at the Coffee Shop offer such off-topic stories as this one in the future.

Very random
Could it be that she had a connection to the railways in her past that was referenced within the story?

No - it's the word "travelling" in the subtitle.  Here is the (PHP) code

$keywords_down = '/\b(trainer|training|stationery|polling station|'.'travelled|farewell|trained|railed|'.'fire station|radio station|'.'power station|drive-through|lorry driver|vaccination drive)/i';
