An email I received from LNER» (London North Eastern Railway - about) today:

Who in their right mind would wish rail travel on their loved ones with the current state of the railways?

Id be disowned if I gave such a gift to my nearest and dearest. Tongue

Hmmm ... I wouldn't mind a gift of a rail voucher.  Mind you, at times I feel pretty unloved.

Given that, thinking of shop gift vouchers, which usually expire after 12 months, around 6% are never used and alas LNER» (London North Eastern Railway - about)'s also expire if not used within 12 months. It would be good if the railways made a decision to follow the principle set by the people who run book tokens, as the (obsolete) paper variety do not expire and their current policy is to renew the online variety should those go toes up.

(Neither to be confused with various e.g. christmas savings clubs, which can be really poisonous...)
