The rail regulator has imposed its biggest ever fine - ^2.4 million - on Network Rail after a ten - month delay to the major new resignalling project (link below.)

And now some of the copper cabling has been stolen (link below.)

It was later found and replaced, but not before disrupting services.
It's all the pikeys that nick all the copper, my mate from Helston was telling me that there was some hanging around when they moved the DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) into Trevarno, they were trying to acquire the old gate that they had to demolish, and a couple of bits of Barlow rail that was dug up!

Cable theft is getting to be a big problem for Network Rail, the value of Scrap is the problem, however three things Network Rail could do,

1 On signal cable use "TINNED" (electro-plated) copper cores, drives down the scrap value no end.

2 Have Property of Network Rail Printed on Outside and Inner cores of cable, most scrapmen won't touch such cable without the correct paperwork.

3 On Power Cables (16mm core and above) use Aluminium cable instead of copper.
