Please be nice to me, I'm new.

Been reading the board for a while and decided it was time to get involved a bit. I'm a research scientist living in Oxford during the week and use FGW (First Great Western) a fair bit (mainly at weekends) for travelling to and from Bristol and west Wales. I'll confess now that I'm a heritage railway guard and secondman ("Ooh, you get to work with proper trains, locomotives and mk Is" as an FGW senior conductor once said to me with a wistful look in his eye, I must have been travelling on an Adelante) and therefore a bit of a crank  Embarrassed But don't let that put you off...

We certainly do - our rulebook still even contains the magic words "the guard is in charge of the train". Just be grateful though that you only have a driver to convince that you're in charge and not a fireman as well... Wink
