And another triumph for the FGW (First Great Western) own goals department - aka marketing.

On the day that the all the headlines are all about fare increases, I go to renew my Cotswold Line Railcard and am informed by Moreton's ever-helpful early turn booking clerk Christine that the off-peak fares to Oxford are coming down. A CDR (Off Peak Day Return [ticket type] (formerly 'Cheap Day')) is now ^8 from ^9.80, while the railcard fare falls from ^6.45 to ^5.40. Presume the same applies from elsewhere on the route as well, though peak fares will rise.

When will they ever learn?

I'll look to see if there are posters up. I doubt it.

Good News though... it'll mean not having Advance fares  Cry a little bit more to take!

There are fare rises at Evesham, Worcester. So it only seems to apply to the southern section of the Cotswolds

Well, lucky old me, and anyone else travelling from Moreton, but if the idea is to encourage more people on to the trains, then it would help to actually publicise the reduction locally - how about a leaflet and timetable drop in Moreton and nearby villages?

But then when it used to be a over a hundred cheaper on a first class monthly season to London to go WOS» (Worcester Shrub Hill - next trains) - OXF» (Oxford - next trains) then OXF - PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) I wonder if there are any similar savings if one add in an extra break at the souther cotswolds stations
