Pedestrians are being told of the dangers of ignoring warning signs at the West Midlands' "most misused public crossing".

There have been five recorded incidents where people "have put their lives on the line" since a subway under the level crossing in Tipton shut in June.

Network Rail released a video of a person narrowly escaping being hit by a train while running across the railway line at Tipton in the Black Country.

William Huskisson MP^▸ was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830. Many more have died in the same way since then. Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

I am trying to remember what Tipton station is like, having dropped my cousin off there from a narrow boat to catch a train back to Winchester.

This was when there was still the notorious level crossing which was shut for 45 mins in every hour in the peak. I don't recall a pedestrian subway I thought you got to the platforms via the level crossing. Now that there's a road underpass I'm suprised the pedestrian underpass if it existed was closed or that no other provison has made to access the platforms at Tipton station without using the old crossing.

With the frequency of trains on that line I'm surprised that there is still a pedestrain foot crossing at Tipton. I think I would look very very carefully before using it.

The road underpass is still under construction and is not due to open until October. The box is in place now but not ready for traffic, report and pictures from the local Express & Star here http://www.expressandstar.com/2009/04/11/road-tunnel-is-moved-into-place/

And looking at the level crossing CCTV^▸ video, the person involved seems more to be an idiot full stop, since he is running between the middle of the platforms, not someone who can't wait for the crossing to open.
