Apparently FGW (First Great Western) are going to be installing new ticket machines called STAR in the offices in Cornwall over the next few weeks. The staff say that they believe they aren't as good as what they got at the moment.
I dare say it's all down to money
Anyone had experience of both systems?

Yayy!! Just the website to go. I'll probably have access (whatever happened to 'Your Flexible Friend'?) to the 10% discount just as it is withdrawn.

I know APTIS (All Purpose Ticket Issuing System) has been out of use for a while, so are the old Wessex stations using TRIBUTE or some other system? I can't vouch for it from a staff point of view, but from a customer's perspective, when Oxford switched from APTIS to STAR (in 2006?) there were some significant delays for a few weeks whilst staff got used to the new system but once it had bedded in it seems to be a much quicker and slicker system than APTIS.

I think they are using Tribute down west.

Both Star and Tribute have the advantages and disadvantages.

Star is fine once you get used to it, but there is a couple of features I know will be missed.

At ScotRail we have STAR and still don't accept Solo or Electron cards, assuming FGW (First Great Western) will be the same, was interesting to see the SWT (South West Trains) booking office at Bournemouth does, never seen a ticket office that accepted them before.

FGW Star Machines accept Solo and Electron, and to my knowledge all our Ticket Vending Machines are supposed to aswell.
