A new train is to be named after The University of Worcester in honour of it gaining university status five years ago, First Great Western has announced.
The institution began life as an overflow teacher training college for the University of Birmingham and was awarded full university status in 2005.
Vice-chancellor professor David Green said he was "delighted" by the gesture.
The Duke of Gloucester is due to attend the naming ceremony of the power car train in Shrub Hill on Wednesday.
The rail operator said the power car train would be used on First Great Western's (FGW▸ (First Great Western)) high speed rail routes.
"Over the past five years the University has played a significant role in the City of Worcester and across the region as a whole. We are delighted to mark the university's fifth anniversary in this way," a FGW spokesman said.

I would have thought a Turbo would have been more appropriate given the rolling stock generally used on the Oxford-Worcester line.  Or what about a Class 150 for the four and a quarter hour trip to Weymouth? Roll Eyes

This got me thinking, do we have a train named after what is (arguably) the finest institution that FGW▸ (First Great Western) pass through? (Oxford)?

Try googling "Sidmouth College". The homepage pops up with the weirdly ungrammatical title "Welcome at Sidmouth College"  Huh

Oh, and having spent eight years studying in Oxford, d_m's description of it as an "institution" tickled me just a little bit...  Grin

Irony of irony - the first train I travel on with FGW▸ (First Great Western) is the university of worcester - however this was from south wales!
