From the Evesham Journal:

Quote
A woman living in Bretforton hanged herself at a Worcester train station having been influenced by the depressive effects of alcohol, a coroner has ruled.

Lithuanian Danute Urbonaite, aged 41, had been working as a strawberry picker in Bretforton and shared a house in the village. She was found hanging by a leather strap from a coat hook in the toilets at Foregate Street Station.

An inquest at Stourport Coroners Court on March 18 heard that she killed herself just hours after being released from police custody. She had been arrested the previous day with concerns about her mental health after police found her sleeping and under the influence of alcohol in the garden of the Fleece Inn in Bretforton.

Miss Urbonaite was examined by a doctor in custody who decided she should stay overnight until sober. She was re-evaluated the next day by a police sergeant and found to be fit to leave, saying she planned to travel to London to visit friends.

She made her way to Foregate Street Station and was found intoxicated in the waiting room at 3.45pm. She was escorted from the platform at 5.20pm but returned to the station to hang herself and was found by a member of the public just before 6pm. She was declared dead at the scene.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
