Heres one intersting finding for now

From Bristol to Goring and Stretly, a through ticket, SVR not Reading is ^13.75 but break your journey at Chosley and it becomes ^9.30!

Was doing some fares for STJ (Severn Tunnel Junction railway station)-Taplow

STJ-BRI» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains)   2.85
BRI-DID» (Didcot Parkway - next trains)   ^8
DID-TAP   4.65
   ^15.50
STJ-BTH» (Bath Spa - next trains)   4.7
BTH-DID   6.25
DID-TAP   4.65
   ^15.60
STJ-CPM» (Chippenham - next trains)   6.25
CPM-DID   5
DID-TAP   4.65
   ^15.90
STJ-BRI   2.85
BRI-DID   ^8
DID-TWY (Twyford station)   3.9
TWY-TAP   1.85
   ^16.60

STJ-BRI   2.85
BRI-CHO   8
CHO-TAP   4.4
   ^15.25

I had a look at this, Jim ... and scratched my head a bit - then it twigged.   I think you're looking at half fare tickets as you've not yet reached the age of 16.   Have I worked that out right?

With the Severn Tunnel Junction to Taplow journey, the scientist in me always likes to see a "control" case to compare to.   In this case that would be a through ticket.   And I compared, for tomorrow morning, an adult single. And I came up with.

Severn Tunnel Junction to Taplow - 59.50 single (for trains departing before 09:25), or 45.00 on the 09:25 and presumably later.

Severn Tunnel Junction to Bath PLUS Bath to Didcot PLUS Didcot to Taplow - 36.00 single at any time, 29.70 after the peak.  That journey would need to be made on trains via Bath (rather than direct via BPW» (Bristol Parkway - next trains) if that's possible), and using trains that actually call at Didcot.   And I bet the lady or gent selling tickets at STJ would love you turning up with such a shopping list  Wink

Oh DURR ... just as I post I noted "CDR (Off Peak Day Return [ticket type] (formerly 'Cheap Day'))" in the subject line.  Cheap Day Returns?

Theres better money saving examples about.... Try Newquay to Taunton in a day, look at the SVR fare compared to a NQY (Newquay (Station)) to EXD» (Exeter St Davids - next trains) CDR (Off Peak Day Return [ticket type] (formerly 'Cheap Day')) + a EXD to TAU» (Taunton - next trains) CDR... Yes, Savers are daylight robbery....
