From the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page):

A Suffolk Conservative MP (Member of Parliament) is recovering after being hit by a train at a London railway station.

David Ruffley, who represents Bury St Edmunds, suffered only "minor injuries" in the rush-hour incident at Victoria on Thursday evening.

He was taken to hospital for treatment. A spokeswoman for British Transport Police (BTP (British Transport Police)) said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The MP has represented the seat since 1997.

He returned with a majority of 12,380 on 6 May and is a former Opposition whip and shadow police reform minister.

The BTP spokeswoman added: "The incident was reported to police at 1700 BST.

"London Ambulance Service attended and the man was taken to St Thomas' Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries."

A Conservative Party spokeswoman said: "David Ruffley received minor injuries at a London railway station on Thursday evening."

Hmm. Just to update this topic, here is a link to an article in the Sun: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3020587/Tory-MP-David-Ruffley-throws-himself-under-train.html

However, as this incident is still under investigation, I don't think it will be appropriate for us to speculate any further here - just for the moment.

Thanks, Chris.  Lips sealed

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

Suffolk MP (Member of Parliament) on leave from parliament returns to work

A Suffolk MP given leave from parliamentary duties to help him recover from illness is to return to work later.

Bury St Edmunds MP David Ruffley has been receiving specialist medical care since being struck by a train at Victoria Station in London in June.

In a statement the Conservative MP said he was looking forward to serving his constituents again.

During his absence his constituency work was taken over by colleagues.
