I know this is going to sound daft here, But I possibly need to go to Brighton and London at the weekend. I will be starting my journey at Southampton Central. The ticket I normally buy is a First Off Peak Day Return from SOU - VIC route SOUTHERN ONLY

Now is the above ticket valid via Brighton? Or do I need to split the tickets at Brighton?

Much Thanks in ADV Wink Cheesy Grin

Rail Routeing Guide shows it is a permitted route using maps CW (Christian Wolmar (rail journalist))+LB.

One simple way to find out if a journey is a permitted route, rather than wading through the Routeing Guide is to use the via option on ticket booking engines. If a fare is offered, without the need to purchase multiple tickets, then the route is permitted.

Often a simple way to check in these circumstances is to use the National Rail journey planner, forcing it to take the route you want by entering the 'via' station. Since the journey planner applies the algorithms in the Routeing Guide more or less accurately most of the time, when you ask for fares it will either give you the appropriate through fare or the necesary split. In this case it indicates that the first class off-peak at GBP 23.65 (with DSB discount) is available for the journey you want to make.
