I have two off peak tickets returning from brum to bristol for sunday however am now having to go to reading ....

The cost was ^15.30 for the tickets and ^10.00 for the weekend first upgrade

They are not advance or anything like that.  I won't need them sunday but I will make the journey on saturday the 18th.  I assume there is a ^10 charge to change however for ^5.30 I can't see the point unless the ^10.00 is still valid or can also be changed

Staff at BTM (Bristol Temple Meads (strictly, it should be BRI)) today were not exactly sure.

Note: This is why I rarely do advance - more trouble than worth if things change

Are they off-peak singles or returns? If it's the return portion of an off-peak return then it's good for a month and you don't need to change anything. Off peak single though is a different matter - that would be a date change and I think you're right, it would set you back GBP 10.00. No idea if you can change the date on a weekend first though!

Walk up tickets like offpeak shouldn't be a problem..
If you take the ticket back to where you bought it, they should just change it without charge, so long as...
1) It's not an advance ticket
2) the actual journey (origin, destination & route) stay the same
3) you take it back before the original outward date of travel

after the date, you can apply for a refund which will cost ^10, again, as long as it's not an advance

Am inclasses all day today so may struggle to get it back before tomorrow

hhhmmm indeed, I can only suggest that you ring the telephone helpline for the website you used and see what they can offer, If poss today as you might get a better response if prior to day of travel
