Hmm.  This does seem to be turning out to be a bit of a nightmare, trying to find out where an item might end up?  Shocked

Just for the record, here is the guidance given on the FGW (First Great Western) website:

Quote
Lost Property

It's annoying when you lose something, but don't worry, we'll do all we can to try and help reunite you with any lost items.

If you think you've left an item of property on a First Great Western train, or at one of our stations:

Please call the Lost Property Helpline on 08457 000 125.
Please give as many details as possible about the item and the train service or location that it was left on.

The Helpline (08457 000 125) is open for enquiries from:
Mon to Fri: 0800 to 2000
Sat & Sun: 0900  to 1700

All items of lost property are kept at our Lost Property office in Bristol Temple Meads. Customers should allow up to 5 working days from the day they are lost for the property to be received at this office and logged.

Items are stored for up to 12 weeks, after which they are sent to auction. Storage and retrieval charges will apply, and these vary depending on the item, see applicable charges.

Our Lost Property Helpline (08457 000 125) keeps an inventory of all lost property items and will contact our offices to query further details about a specific item. The more information you can give about an item, and when and where it was lost, the easier it will be to trace.

If an item is confirmed to be yours, you will need to arrange collection from our Bristol Temple Meads Lost Propery Office in one of the following ways:
1. Arrange for the item to be collected by courier.
2. In person.
3. Arrange for a friend to collect the item on your behalf.
4. Small items that can fit through a normal letter box can be posted if a self addressed, postage paid, padded envelope is provided.

Please note: items CANNOT be sent by train and the opening hours of the office are:

Bristol Temple Meads Lost Property Office opening hours:
Mon to Fri: 0800 to 1745
Sat: 0900 to 1500
Sun: 1000 to 1745

Items left on trains terminating at Paddington

For items that are left on trains terminating at Paddington, please contact Network Rail's Paddington Lost Property Office directly on 0207 313 1514. They will be able to further advise you on the retrival of your item.

Just don't leave anything on the sleeper as it vanishes into the ether!

Maybe the lost property fairies swoop down during the day and squirrel it away in lost property heaven

I really don't believe what you were told regarding sleeper lost property ending up at Wembley. I can understand how a member of FirstInfo staff on the phone (who may be fielding calls regarding all of First's TOCs (Train Operating Company) including ScotRail) might assume you meant the Caledonian Sleeper, in which case that would make sense seeing as the stock is serviced there. But for the Night Riviera? I can't see it happening since the train is serviced at OOC (Old Oak Common (depot)). And it's always possible that the person you spoke to in the lost property office at Paddington got it wrong too - do they even know there's a sleeper terminates there? It's not as if they're ever open when it does, and the sleeper also generally leaves from the opposite side of the station from their office on platform 12.

Best hope may be that the items were found at Old Oak and they're on their way to the office at Temple Meads I guess.

Just a small point re: FirstInfo. I believe that division of First Group was sold at the beginning of 2010 to an Indian company called Intelenet Global Services. However it appears that the staffing and locations haven't changed, merely the employer of the First Group Customer Service staff.

To be honest, after what I found out today about Paddington lost property I am slightly more hopeful I may eventually be reunited if it was serviced at OOC (Old Oak Common (depot))

Apparently they have had no lost property handed in in three weeks - I find that hard to believe - not that it hasnt been handed in but that it hasnt been found
