From the South Devon Herald Express (count the railway puns  ): Totnes are letting the train take the strain when they travel to Hayle. For instead of booking a coach at around ^600 there and back, the players are going by cheap day return a ^7 each.
"It's something different but worth trying as our club is next to the station and going by train will save us a load of money," said club captain Mark Hooper.
Totnes would like to think they are on track for their fifth victory on the trot, although if their winning streak is going to hit the buffers it could be at Hayle.
After several seasons in the sidings of the Cornwall & Devon Division, Hayle have made a steaming start to the season to sit third behind top two Bideford and St Austell.

i know that as a cornwall rugby referee, but the article doesnt tell us that! totnes won 13-10! Aye, it's mainly due to the layout of the Herald Express where the sports pages are listed according to spot. Said article would have been filed under Rugby however they've simply copy and pasted the article onto their website and hence made it rather confusing. |

not in ther copied piece above! its quite a walk from hayle station to the rugby club at hayle actually!!! |

Erm ... returning to topic - I was rather impressed at the ^7 cheap day return from Totnes to Hayle: a bargain, surely? Fare is actually ^14.50 for a CDR▸ , so presumably they have split the fare in half to take GroupSave into account. But still, ^7 for a journey of 95 miles (and 27 chains!) is a pretty good value walk-up fare. |

Beat me by less than a minute, brucey! an advanced single from totnes to Hayle is ^5.50, my example journey was the 1153 from totnes with 1 change, on the 27th November, however the 4th december this price is not available, so guessing its limited supply! Group save 4 is ^29 return for 4 people!!! ^7.25 each! |

Only one naff pun in this follow up article from the Herald Express: TOTNES will continue to travel by train to away games, despite a near disaster last Saturday when they played at Liskeard.
As Totnes railway station is just a forward pass away from the club's Borough Park home, it makes sense to travel by train to away matches.
Honiton, Crediton, St Austell, Hayle, Teignmouth and Withycombe are all close enough to railway stations to let the train take the strain on match days.
However, there can be snags, as Totnes found out on Saturday lunchtime.
"We went in two groups, some by road and left nine behind to take the 11.55 train from Totnes," said club captain Mark Hooper. Owing to a landslip at Castle Cary in Somerset, that train was cancelled, so the lads had to wait another half an hour for the next one. When they got to Plymouth to change trains, they saw the one for Liskeard just leaving from another platform! The next train to Liskeard was cancelled and by the time the got there it was half-past two and we should have kicked off then! As we only had six players in the dressing room, the kick-off was put back 15 minutes. Lex Keen and Tim Woodward nipped down to the station in their vans to pick up the stragglers and we got under way at 2.45. The ref was a bit grumpy, but Liskeard were fine. After all that disruption it was amazing that we won, especially as we didn't have our pre-match warm up."
So all is well that ends well, at least that's Hooper's view.
"There are so many advantages to travelling by train I cannot see us ditching it just yet," said Hooper.
"We cottoned on to it from the Cornish clubs, who travel up to us by train as it is convenient and cheaper. For a block booking of four tickets to Liskeard it was ^18.50 there and back. You can't get a coach for less than ^500 so it is a no-brainer."

they should add falmouth to the list, totnes are in the same league as us, and our train station is also a stones throw from the rugby club
