A bit of an OCR failure from an old document, but I found some of the words it substituted (Fireman Larynx, the Renoir coach ...) a little bit amusing.  Can you identify the event and the document?

1n this case. the driver of the (3.30 p.:n. passenger train from West bury to Pndrlington, nz}? Chippenhinn rind Swindon, fnilerl to stop at the home signal nt. Thinly Junction. which was at danger, and caused his train to come into collision with the 5 p.1n. goods train iron Swindon to Plymouth, which was passing the junction on the down ' instil line. Five passengers were injure<l^one ottheni seriously. The drivers and lireinen to both trains were injured with bruises and burns, the worst crises being; those of
driver Butt and fireman larynx, of the goods train. who were severely burnt and scnldcd. Three other servants of the Coinpnny, who were in the passenger train, were bruised.
The passenger train consisted of at tL^ur^wheels^couple<l tender engine, running

Thinglcy Junction, where this collision occurred, is an ordinary donblc jnnetion
between the nap und down main lines to and from liristol ned the up and down brunch
lines to end from Westbnrvs cm Holt rind Trowbridge. The junction is timing to tins
proceeding to Bristol. The ninepin lines are practically straight, their general direction Heinz south-westerly, while the branch turns lo? to the south, with facing points on the
down main line, the curvature nt. the junction having n radius oflroin 28 to 29 chains.

My spellchecker never used to like the idea of Heanor in Derbyshire. Being essentially American, it thought this was probably "Hanoi".

Very interesting. Even with the very odd spellings you can still see how succinct those old accident reports were. There's everything you need to know about Thingley Junction it's situation, approaches, signals etc. in a couple of paragraphs.
